Is there a back up card people are taking? which doesn't hit you as hard as maybe some ot the others? would be interested in the fees..was thinking of taking my tsbclassic acc debit card to use as back up if the clarity card fails or blocks.

Metro Bank Debit for EEA. Kalixa Pay worldwide.0

Definitely go for a Visa Card as Mastercard is not always useable.
Nationwide have some of the lowest charges, esp. debit card.0 -

No they don't, unless you are paying a monthly fee.
Have you found a place within Europe where Mastercard hasn't worked?0 -
I'd just take a bog standard debit card as backup... it's not like you intend to use it, after all...Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

Not in Europe, but outside. Incidentally, I pay no monthly fee on my Nationwide flexaccount so the fees are definitely cheaper for me.0 -

OP is within the EEA this trip, apparently.
If you pay no monthly fees for the FlexAccount, then you pay fees for usage abroad. I don't bother to take my FlexAccount debit, even as a back-up, as it's not in the running.
Metro Bank debit is best for use within the EEA, as there are no fees.
Kalixa Pay, no fees worldwide, for purchases.0 -
I have a Caxton Global card with about £100 on it as a backup in case my Clarity is lost, blocked or refused. I can always top it up online with more if needed.
The backup to the backup is my regular debit card but I haven't used that abroad in years.0 -

I've got a FlexPlus current account, which is fee free for cash withdrawals, there's a fee for the account but the insurances included are easily worth the fee (assuming of course you need them).0
