Coming to the end of contract on 02... Want to reduce bills

Options
Hi there,

I have an Iphone 5 with 02 which comes to the end of the contract next month. At the moment I pay around £50 a month for it, which is far too expensive for my liking.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips or advice how to reduce my bill. I'm not looking to upgrade (maybe I'll reconsidered when the iphone 6 is out in a few months) but at the moment I want to keep the same phone same number and just reduce my bill.

Thanks in advance, I have had heaps of 3rd party people calling me telling me they can offer me a deal however, I am wary...

  • O2 would want to keep you as a customer so worth having a chat about the costs here or look below :-

Get the phone unlocked and port out.

There are some great payg deals that avoid all the stress of a contract.

With three 3 2 1, calls are 3p texts 2p and data 1p per mb. You will probably end up paying £5 per month instead of £50. But even if you are a heavy user three does great PAYG bundles.
  • O2 will unlock the iPhone free as you are a contract customer.
Then depending on usage I would recommend getting a Sim only deal.

Take a look at the Tesco Mobile website for their sim only deals for better value. They use the O2 network so you may not need to get the phone unlocked and you already know what the coverage is like.
Also Tesco include 4G in their deals over £10pm at no extra cost - if that is of use to you.

They have deals from £7.50 to £27.50 a month with a variety of allowances.

Am in the same Boat as you Oliver7889. but unfortunately my iphone 5 was severely water damaged about 8 months back and i have been using my previous Iphone 4.

as others stated. phone 02 and ask the CS rep first and foremost to Unlatch your iphone which they will do for free on completion of the contract and then discuss what ever you wish in terms for your deal.

for me, as i need a new handset (iphone 4 is dying) i am looking for the best deal for the LG G3 or the G2 which i think is fantastic. and i think its time i give android a go

good luck with your negotiations with o2
  • Just ask O2 to put you onto a rolling 30 day sim plan, you don't need to port to another network to pay less than fifty quid a month if O2 give you the service you want. You can then upgrade/port to another network when the IP6 is out.
