Liverpool Airport (JLA) - They charged me £2, the B@$^£#$

:mad::mad::mad:
Sorry, I know its nothing but a principle!

I've seen lots of post about the stopping on the red lines and the little shrimp in the van, but..

Two weeks ago I found myself FUNNELED into JLA short stay car park and forced to pay £2 to get out! - Didnt even drop anyone off!

Before I go cutting of my nose to spite my face, what can I do?

My options....
a) Telephone and complain?
b) Cancel the credit card payment?
c) Letters?
d) Write to watchdog!
e) Small Claims Court?
f) European Court? - Surely they've infringed my human rights!
g) See a man about a dog?

Please!

Cameron

Exactly how were you funnelled into the car park? Can you explain this?

If you complain do it in writing.

Same thing happened to me at Gatwick last year when looking for the passenger pick up place, had to pay £3 to get out of the short stay car park area as it wasn't clear. I didn't bother to complain as it wasn't much but felt miffed I can tell you!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

a similar scenario happened to me at Dunham Massey country park last year, but as they had a reasonable human being on parking charge duty I was allowed through at no charge and exited the car park (I was only looking to turn around as I had missed my destination, but once you entered the car park there were no get out systems in place if you were there in error)

this is where human beings come into their own, as opposed to automation and rat traps

After the roundabout where the white van entrapment device lurks, if you go left if you miss the little right at the next mini roundabout to go back on yourself then you go through an area where you pay either to park or to pick up.

At least Mr Magoo in the van didn't get you.

All except A) telephone conversations are deniable, start a paper trail

Also consider writing to Trading Standards, CAA, ICAO, Department of Transport, Chamber of Commerce, local paper, local radio station, Luton Tourist Board, Ombudsman.. Make them refund you, they will spend hundreds of pounds trying not to.

  • (h) block the exit and refuse to pay and insist they let you out. If you can block all exit lanes, all the better.

That's what I did at Union Square Aberdeen when it first opened.

I drove into the car-park and when I got out the car and read the conditions and rates I made to drive out again - but no there is a barrier - and I hadnt bought a ticket - so no way to get the barrier to go up. So I just sat and waited.

A uniformed jobsworth appeared and demanded payment.

After a few minutes he gave up and let me, and the queue behind me, out.

There was no provision for dropping passengers off or picking them up after shopping.

It's all different now though. I get the impression I was not alone in doing this, so they had to change the rules and let non-parkers out free.
  • If the Ts&Cs are not clear visible before you are committed to entering a barrier controlled car park (or equivalent charge area, e.g. in airports), then no contract can have been entered, and they have to let you exit without payment. And those Ts&Cs have to be really obvious, and fully readable as you drive past at a normal speed. It appears this was not the case for the OP.

In Bristol Airport, by the time you can read the t&c you are by the entry barriers in a one way road. There is no option but to enter the car park.

Yes there is, you enter the car park and refuse to pay at the exit. I find that stopping the car at the exit and blowing my horn continuously does the trick.

You need to treat consumer cons robustly, do not be afraid of confrontation.
