Hello i did change address and in my new home the telephone landline is with Virgin media and the telephone is in the name of the landlord.in the last week from 24 june till 4 july i did call my parents in italy on a landline,i didn't check with provider the rate, cause i was sure we were in the year 2007,but with my surprise when the landlord gave to me the bill that's what i find out 2 hours conversation from uk to italy both on landline......
how much did cost to me? £25.50 .
well i did call Virgin and i ask why is so expensive to call a country where the distance with an airplane is only 2 hours and the prize of ticket is with ryanair 20pound.the answer i receive was there is a service for international call for a £11 a month and that's will bring the cost 2p for minute.
with my dissapointment 10 hours call on landline this month will cost me around £200
is anybody there does know how to stop this people to robbery my pocket
because i am sure this are UNFAIR CHARGES in the era and with the information internet did give to us....or maybe one more time i need to feel beat it andwithout any justice.
thanks to all best regards

Why not use the Intl call checker in future to save money.

Talk International is only £1.50 a month .
10 hours a month at 2p a minute would only be £12 a month not £200 !!!0 -
cause i was sure we were in the year 2007
Eh? Am not sure what relevance the year has?!!Gone ... or have I?0 -

Why bother paying for Talk Intl?
10 hours a month using www.dialwise.co.uk only £3. Plus the various 6p connection charges to the 0844 access number.0 -
If you register with 1899 or 18866 or some other cheap call provider you'll be in control of the phone call charges - and your landlord won't see who you've been calling.
I'm with NTL for TV, Broadband and Phone Line but none of my phone calls get charged to them.0 -
Welcome to the MSE forums nun.
Unfortunately, the 'how can I reduce my call costs?' options for those using cable telephone lines are less clear cut than for those with 'ordinary' telephone lines.
However, the MSE CallCheckers and the following site offer some hope: http://wakeup.to/cheapercablecallsTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Excuse me, but that puts you in the 'having made an idiotic and very stupid mistake' catagory. You should make sure youre aware of calls costs for this exact reason. Its not an unfair charge, its your mistake. Sorry dude.

Yes do that. The numbers called won't appear on the phone bill for your landlord to gawp at and any charges will come out direct from your own bank account. Plus calls to Italy and other places are generally A LOT cheaper than calling direct from your cable provider.
Just one thing though, i heard VM had started blocking certain phone access numbers. Maybe someone with a cable line can tell you if this has affected call 1899, 18866 etc.

Just to clarify - I'm with VM and use 1899, 18866 and ratebuster with no problems. The only time I don't use them is on a Saturday and Sunday as VM give my free phone calls to any landline in the UK at no extra cost.
