Laptop not charging

My laptop is no longer charging up fully and each time I switch it on the charge level is slightly less.
Help!
It has been suggested that I need a new battery?
How and from where and can I do so myself if this is thought to be the problem.?
Nothing else wrong.
Thanks.:o

If you need to source a new battery then just Google for...

    laptop model name/number + battery

Laptop batteries usually just clip in and out easily, check your manual for instructions.

Presumably the laptop works OK when connected to the power supply?
Removing the battery usually involves sliding two catches underneath the laptop while you unplug the battery - very simple.

You'll find replacement batteries for most laptops on Amazon or Ebay. Consider copies rather than original manuafacturer as the price difference is often considerable.

If you have problems post your make and model number here and I or someone will find you a battery and also give you relevant advice.

Unfortunately laptop batteries do deteriorate. However, as the handbook to mine gave some details on battery preservation, I emailed their tech department for further advice.

I was told not to run on mains once the battery is charged, unless the battery is removed. When I remember, I charge while using the laptop, then switch of power when full charged.

This battery, has lasted longer than in my last laptop, from the same company. It doesn't last the full three hours, as it used to, but it gets heavy use and is two years old.

When this happened to me several years back, I took my laptop to a local computer repair shop and they replaced the battery. You could take it to your local PC World and ask there?

Is this what you consider suitable advice on a 'Techie' forum?

Thank you so much to everyone who has been kind enough to reply.
Garetha, it's a Medion Akoya running Vista and with a Core 2 Duo chip. Have had it a couple of years and it's been brilliant so am nervous of doing anything to it to change this such as putting wrong battery in! Any help gratefully received.

    Hi there

If you turn your laptop over there should be a panel/sticker on the bottom with a load of information, if you can find the exact "model Number" from that, someone will be able to help you find a compatible battery.

    Regards
    Paul

    Examples here and here

    Page 30 onwards

Vista from a couple of years ago?? Are you sure? The warranty would have been for three years and that is long gone. Time flies doesn't it? ;) Five years perhaps. :)
