Buying fuel in France with prepaid cards

We have both CaxtonFx and FairFx prepaid euro cards.
People should be aware that these CANNOT be used in many (if not all - we never found one) "pay-at-pump" petrol stations in France. If there is no-one to manually conduct the transaction, which increasingly seems to be the case - especially at weekends, you are forced back onto using a UK card with all its attendant charges.
That was a big disappointment.

As I HAVE to use attended cashier service I have NEVER had a problem on Saturdays in France but forget it for supermarkets/hypermarkets on Sundays even if you find one where the store is open (Maybe different it Calais etc). I have used pre-paid cards in the past but they block a big chunk of your dosh so with a small/balance forget it. The small Texaco filling stations are usually open Sunday mornings.
Things like this that are why France is sinking into the merde.
They think they are special, but forget that the rest of the world does not.Turning left avoids some of the idiots (only some)0 -
Well get a UK credit/debit card that is cheaper to use than Caxton/FairFX eg the Clarity, Metrobank. I had no problems using the Clarity in unattended French petrol stations.0

I've got a Metrobank card but I HAVE to use attended service as I use half priceLPG which cannot be bought without attended service. It's always there somewhere but maybe I have to pay 75p per litre
I can use essence/petrol at twice the price like the other suckers but why would I?Turning left avoids some of the idiots (only some)0
