You tube skips

Upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium & from XP before it went out of support.

Previously you tube music and video worked faultlessly.

It now jumps/skips periodically and regularly whilst running in the background and performing other tasks be that browsing or switching documents/spreadsheets in word.

Video content in the minimal state is usually affected in the same way but full screen regularly freezes.

This occurs whether using Chrome or Firefox.

2.5Gb RAM.

Download speed is around 10mbs and no problems experienced on tablet using android/chrome.

Any ideas folks?

    Radeon x300/x550/x1050 series.

Video content over catch up ok apart from occasional buffering.

You might want to check your hardware acceleration settings in Flash. If you right-click on a Flash video, choose "Settings...", click the display tab/icon, you should see the relevant tick box.

Try turning on/off hardware acceleration to see if that makes any difference. You'll need to close and re-start the browser to use the new settings, I think.

If you've loaded Win7 did you install the motherboard chipset drivers and the latest graphics card drivers? Windows might be using a basic driver which isn't performing well at anything other than basic display.

Check in Device Manager for any items with an exclamation mark against them which indicates a piece of hardware not correctly set up.

What does Task Manager show when doing this? ie CPU and memory % usage

Do the windows system rating and see what you get. Bit basic but an easy place to start.

Appropriate drivers downloaded. Flash up to date

    No exclamation marks.

CPU 39 - 60% with intermittent spikes higher

    Memory 34% constant.

    No noticeable difference.

Perhaps time to update your system. New CPU, perhap £10 max. If you have a PCI Express slot, upgrade the Graphics card.

You are expecting too much from your system. Which Motherboard do you have there?

    You may be right.

It worked perfectly well under XP. Iplayer and on demand work, sadly not youtube. You would think MS could do the basic stuff retrospectively. The upgrade assessment didn't hilight any issues prior to W7 purchase.

Internet works fine as do other functions. I don't want any intensive graphics just what I had before would be nice.

I doubt I will throw any more at this PC. Just use my Nexus or PS3 for youtube for now.

Seriously, you are looking at perhaps £8 for a CPU and some thermal paste, in order to quadruple your capability. Your CPU is only a little more powerful than the first ATOM CPU in Netbooks. I'm surprised that you can multi-task at all.

I used to have a similarly powered CPU in mine and suffered from some buffering and freezing, so invested in a videocard.
A £20 videocard will be at least six times as powerful as your current card.
So then I could play Full HD material without buffering. But I would still have slowdowns when I had multiple apps and browser tabs open, So I invested in a Core2Duo E6300 for £6.

Now everything is fine. PC is also a lot more quiet.

If you are happy with video performance, just upgrade the CPU.

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6300 £5.99 if you have Socket LGA775.

Bear in mind that your CPU is a single core unit from ten years ago. Moving to the Core2Duo above brings you in line with a modern low end Processor, when it comes to processing power.
