Anxiously waiting here for mortgage company to phone me back re mortgage products I can change to. Have to say I was a bit peeved at their inflexibility to discuss both fixed rate and variable. I had to pick one or the other. I chose fixed but she did say that I dont have to go with their recommendations and can choose another product. All I want is for them to tell me all the products they have on offer that are available to us.
On a positive note I got bank interest of £90 today

Today is a good day - as I got interest on one of my accounts today I check Mr Cups accounts too and he had an whopping £346.03 interest added to one of his accounts (we sold our last year so there was a fair bit of cash in there for a while - all gone now though). So, of course, that has gone straight into my Mortgage OP account. Total of £520 in there now
Will need to find out on Monday how to make OP's

Mortgage company are going to come back to me on monday. They tried to charge me another arrangement fee of £999 which I am being stubborn and not agreeing to as we just paid them £999 in October last year when we got our self build mortgage. We were on the understanding that on completion we would simply do a rate switch to a lower rate and no mention of an additional charge had ever been made. They were adamant that we had to pay so I called their bluff and asked for a redemption figure and also asked for a manager to phone me. Within 30 mins a manager phoned me back and said he had spoken to compliance (? is that right?) and they agreed they could waive the fee. He just has to get it okayed by his manager now so hopefully on Monday we will get the go ahead to switch. I just cant face remortgaging properly just now. Too much stress and after just building a house I am just beginning to enjoy things calming down a little so while our lender may not be the cheapest I am willing to stay with them for an easy life. I also like them as a company, Furness BS, as it is easy to get in touch with them and you can speak to the same person every time which is unusual these days. Anyway we will see what Monday brings. Tell him it's steak
. Then when it turns out to be mince and tatties you can accuse him of not listening, or say you'd got mixed up and were thinking of 3 months on Friday :rotfl:.Coffee_Cup wrote: »I also like them as a company, Furness BS, as it is easy to get in touch with them and you can speak to the same person every time which is unusual these days. I had the same with Stafford Railway BS a few years ago - remortgaged a btl to give DD a house deposit. Every time I phoned I spoke to the same person and I used their preferred solictor who was on the same square. When I phoned there once she had just popped over the road to hand in my paperwork
. Lovely, personal service :T (still paid it off as soon as I could though
).
Why not set yourself a budget for eating out and just try to cut out the ad hoc extra ones (but have a little budget for that as well). Or work out how many days the cost of the extra meal (plus interest on it) would knock off the mortgage
. A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Gallygirl - I had no idea you were so local to me! My friend works for SRBS and she is the politest/loveliest person I know so maybe they make a point of employing the nice people.
Coffeecup - will be subscribing to your thread - I love hearing about your free coffee finds, my mum is lovely and lets me have some of her free mcD's free hot drink vouchers which my dad accrues through his tea addiction!!Simplify and then Simplify some more!0 -

Havent read the entire thread so sorry if this has been mentioned. But have you considered getting a coffee machine for your home?
I picked up something similar to this: https://www.dolce-gusto.co.uk/coffee-machines/piccolo-genio/genio-delonghi-automatic-piano-black
You buy 'pods' for them, works out at about 40pence per cup and they do some delicious drinks both hot and cold. I havent bought a coffee in a shop since. Also each time I have one I used to have bought out, I put 50pence in a sealed jar. Il then count it up at the end of the year!Sealed Pot Challenge:
2014 = £202
2015 = £3820 -
Gallygirl - think I will try the steak trick. I will just say I forgot to take it out of the freezer

Struggling Youth - I have been thinking about a coffee machine but just not sure. Me and caffeine dont overly agree with one another and if I have too much I get jittery. I have tried decaf in a friends machine but so far none I like. I also think it is about the social aspect and getting out to see friends.
Vala - I will need to look more into loyalty cards etc as nothing beats a free cuppa

Have had a pretty cheap (ish) weekend. A friends 40th birthday but didnt spend too much. A big food shop but was long overdue and had 6 extra mouths to feed this weekend so needed. Bought a few bits of clothes for the kids from Mr Sainsbury but nothing too much.
Still waiting to hear back from mortgage company.........
Been playing around with figures and I would love to be done by November 2021. Seven years and three payments. Mr Cup turns 50 in Nov 2021 so wouldnt that be an amazing birthday present. It is doable if all things remain the same but if our income changes etc then who knows. I suppose I have to just plough on assuming all is well and deal with it if its not.
Off to number crunch some more

A friend just text and asked if I wanted to go for coffee. I, of course, said yes. She then said in the coffee shop or hers' so in true money saving fashion I opted to go to hers
Yay me! Good decision day
I will of course repay the favour (probably tomorrow). MFW Start Date: 18/08/14
