3 Internet Dongle Contract

Hi,

Me and my partner were living in a top floor flat and the area did not have fiber-optic and we were not in a cable area.

We decided to go for a dongle, as it was "the fastest dongle about" at the time. Needless to say we didn't get the speeds promised at the time of purchase. A lot of the time we were unable to use it as the speed was so slow, but we had to keep it as we needed it for work purposes (when it worked).

We have now moved and have proper internet. I, however, am still paying for the dongle at £20 a month as the contract doesn't run out yet. I called 3 and asked if there was a way to get rid of it as I am not using it, but their only reply was to either pay £170 something as that is the cost left on the contract or keep it and use it if our new internet fails.

We can not really afford to pay for 2 lots of internet (the dongle is more expensive than the proper internet!).

I'm in 2 minds whether to just cancel the direct debit, but I know that will affect my Credit Score :/

Has anyone got any advise on haw to get this early end to contract fee waived?

Thank you in advance.

Just because you don't need it any more doesn't give you any right to cancel. If you just cancel the DD you'll end up with debt collectors after you and a black mark on your credit file.

If you didn't want a contract, you should have chosen PAYG or at perhaps a rolling monthly deal.
You can try to negotiate a lower price, but you are certainly liable to pay.
