Cat litter dilemma, please advise

  • Litter - I use 2 bags of Golden White per month for my 2 cats - that is just under £20 per month for 4 cats so about £5.00 per month per cat. I do not think you can beat that - quality is excellent, lasts ages (you fill very deep - I split one bag between 2 trays and that lasts 2 weeks with my 4 boys, deposits taken out 3 times per day as I also work full time)

4 boys, 2 trays, deposits taken out morning, after work and then late evening - the litter covers smell, clumps great and my boys have no issues with dirty boxes. I only do a complete change every 2 weeks when there s little liter left in the boxes - throuw away , wash the boxes and empty a new complete bag split between 2 boxes.

The tray in boxes is always clean - it clumps rock solid so easy to remove clumps as they do not break. Never gets wet. After removing clumps all what is left n the box is nice and clean. Litter has sand like consistency.

I use baby nappy bags from asda or tesco - they cost next to nothing for a bag of 300 bags, I put the clumps inside those bags and then in with normal rubbish.

With just 2 cats - 2 bags would last you 2 months easy so £10 per month, around £2.50 per week.

Bags are very heavy but zooplus delivers to your door - I am in a first floor flat with no transport so order everything online with delivery. My cats only go out for like 1-2 hours per day when I come back from work and they never pee/poo outside - in fact as soon as I get them back in, they are all off to use the litter tray...

    All the best

    Can't put it better myself

I have 1 tray / cat (they now sadly have to be separated 24/7) - I use the Jumbo Catit trays and use 1 bag in Mia's tray and slightly more in Archie's (he digs a good 4 inches down before going so it has to be extra deep)

I've never had anything get through to the bottom & I scoop regularly - same method as GR

A top up as required and I rarely (and I do mean rarely) change the full tray so it lasts ages & is very economical - and it's easy as the clumps are fantastic and it's just so quick to look after compared to many litters I've used in the past

Sorry this is a little off topic...

When I was little my mum used to breed Siamese/Burmese cats & she used a litter that was made from compressed grass cuttings, every time a cat had a wee it smelled like newly mown grass! It was amazing.

It looked like the wood pellets posted earlier but was obviously green.

Anyone know of it? Does it still exist? (going back some years now ;) )

Edit: A quick google found something similar http://www.naturallitterproducts.co.uk/cat-country looks expensive though.

Another vote for Golden Grey, it's brilliant. 2 bags lasts over 2 months for 3 indoor cats. I also work full time and scoop first thing on a morning, when I get home and before I go to bed and we never have any nasty smells.

Hi, I have two indoor cats who are very well behaved but they often poo outside of their litter tray.
Can anyone advise me as I don't know what to try next.

Puppy pads are Brilliant for sticking underneath the trays to catch stray wees and poos. The liquid soaks in to pad and makes cleaning the floor so much easier and quicker. I get the large 60cm by 60cm ones

As for cat litter, another big fan of Tesco cheap own brand litter at £1-55 a bag here. Brilliant stuff, looks clean the majority of the time. I was using 5 bags a month for 6 cats but we're down to 5 cats now and there's a huge drop so probably down to 3 bags a month now.

I've got 4 trays in a row downstairs and 2 trays upstairs.
Downstairs trays = I take out poos when I see them and do the wee in a morning and on a night time
Upstairs trays = just done once a day as they are hardly used
