Perhaps you could see whether you an train them to use the WC instead? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Litter-Kwitter-Toilet-Training-System/dp/B0014N70QO
If you are out during the day, would it be possible to put out a second tray while you are out, even if it has to be somewhere which would be in the way when you get home? If you then clean the trays as soon as you get home, and check it before go to bed and again before you leave in the morning then hopefully you should be able to avoid them going outside the trays.
Depending on what trays you use, you may be able to put them on top of one another without removing the (clean) litter from the second tray, so they don't take up too much space when you are in.All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
I would also recommend Oko Plus - around £22 for 40 litres at zooplus.co.uk. It really is fantastic for clumping, really easy to remove everything. We have 2 kittens and haven't had to change the tray yet in the 3 months we've had them (Probably used around 1/3 of the bag so far if that in those 3 months)!! Just top up the level now and again after removing the clumps. It doesn't smell and they are both happy to keep using it. We only clean out the clumps twice a day due to work and they are happy to keep using the tray (I guess due to the fact the smell is very well controlled with that litter) and have had no accidents so far0

It doesn't obviously when a number 2 has been done, but our cats tend to prefer the wood based than any other. And it's easier to scoop out than the clumping fullers earth stuff. No sludge, wetness or mess.
You hardly get any odour from it too.
I get massive 30ltr bags from Pets At Home for £8.99 or 2 for £16 and last ages. Difficult to trundle on the bus with, but if you know anyone that's got transport who would be willing to go with you.
I also use a hooded tray with a little cat flap door & neither cat has ever done anything outside it, & they both share the one tray too. Some cats like their own litter tray but ours aren't fussed.0 -
Right - I always see/hear the info about 2 trays per cat but as I live in a flat with limited space - my 4 (yes FOUR) cats happily share just 2 litter boxes.
BUT my litter boxes are huge:
You can see dimensions of those ones here:
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter_litter_boxes/litter_tray_cat_toilet/98035
My boys are very big - smallest is just over 4kg then 5.5kg, 6.5kg and Teddy at 7.5 kg. Now, Teddy will occasionally have an accident when he is in the tray but his bottom is out - happens perhaps twice per month. But he is exceptionally big.
Litter - I use 2 bags of Golden White per month for my 2 cats - that is just under £20 per month for 4 cats so about £5.00 per month per cat. I do not think you can beat that - quality is excellent, lasts ages (you fill very deep - I split one bag between 2 trays and that lasts 2 weeks with my 4 boys, deposits taken out 3 times per day as I also work full time)

4 boys, 2 trays, deposits taken out morning, after work and then late evening - the litter covers smell, clumps great and my boys have no issues with dirty boxes. I only do a complete change every 2 weeks when there s little liter left in the boxes - throuw away , wash the boxes and empty a new complete bag split between 2 boxes.
The tray in boxes is always clean - it clumps rock solid so easy to remove clumps as they do not break. Never gets wet. After removing clumps all what is left n the box is nice and clean. Litter has sand like consistency.
I use baby nappy bags from asda or tesco - they cost next to nothing for a bag of 300 bags, I put the clumps inside those bags and then in with normal rubbish.
With just 2 cats - 2 bags would last you 2 months easy so £10 per month, around £2.50 per week.
Bags are very heavy but zooplus delivers to your door - I am in a first floor flat with no transport so order everything online with delivery. My cats only go out for like 1-2 hours per day when I come back from work and they never pee/poo outside - in fact as soon as I get them back in, they are all off to use the litter tray...
All the best0 -
Quick question, does the golden white track? oko tracks terribly with my lot  also does the poop smell if it's left in an indoor bin for a day or so if I don't happen to go out to the bins outside?
I did use one recommended to me from zooplus, can't remember the name but that was like sand and a nightmare to get out of the carpet although it didn't move far! I'm hoping to get laminate at some point which will help but for now im stuck with carpet:(:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0 -
I had a problem with Jimmy missing the tray. It was big enough, but he just preferred to hang over the edge. I solved it by replacing it with a large storage tray from Wilkinsons, which he had no choice but to get into.0

I use golden grey the odour free one. With a litter mat in front of each tray it doesn't track much at all0
-
I do not think there is a litter that does not track at all. Wish there was
I did use Oko and IMHO the Golden Grey range (there is few in this range) tracks less, much less then OKO.
But it also may depend if you have a "digger cat" - I have one, my smallest one manages to dig out so much from the very large/high tray that it is unreal sighhhh
None of my boys wanted to use hooded trays, perhaps that would help a bit with digging/tracking?
In any case - there are people who swear by Oko, there are people who swear by Golden Grey range (me in this group of course) but I guess to be able to compare - you just need to get a bag and see how your cats get on with it.
Golden Grey range is sand like, very fine grains - brilliant clumping, no smell, winner for me.
It may look expensive at £19.90 for 2 bags BUT as it lasts me whole month with 4 cats, that translates to only 1.25 per cat per week which is quite cheap considering free delivery and the quality of the litter.
I tried the odor one and other ones from the range but the white one is now my preferred - purely as it looks nicer then the grey colour ones
Range here:
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/esearch.htm#q=golden%20grey
I just notices they do the pine version - description /reviews below mention tracking "like OKO- a lot" so I guess all the other Golden Grey (tried all of them, all fantastic) will be better xx
EDIT - I have laminate/tiles all over the flat0 -
I have one cat and two litter trays. he uses one for poos and one for pees. unless I don't realise there is a poo in one tray, in which case he will poo in the other tray. he doesn't care what brand litter I use! it is sort of an individual cat thing. one cat may not mind using one litter tray for both pees and poos - where another cat wont use another cats tray so will pee and poo elsewhere. try separating the trays.0

Hi there,
Just thought I'd share my experience as we have two indoor cats. When we first got them they were happy to share a litter tray but as they got older we noticed we were having a few accidents around the place. I bought a second litter tray (they are both the hooded types as one of them is a proper digger and litter goes EVEYWHERE otherwise) and we've not really had any issues since. She did start peeing by the front door for while when we first moved but we managed to discourage that eventually and we think it was just a stress thing. Interestingly they both seem to have their "own" litter tray. You can guarantee that Loki will always use the one on the left and Moklo will always use the one on the right. Sounds to me like they just don't like their litter smelling of antoher cat and would be better with one each.
Incidentally we use the cheapy tesco value litter and they're both fine with it. If you do worry about the smell you can get some litter deodoriser from wilkinsons. It looks like shake and vac and you just add it in with their litter. Think it was only about a quid for the tub too!Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0
