The cables are normally the same as for kettles and the like, kettles have a habit of having shortish cables for safety.
I would lay good money someone has swapped your cable with their kettle or home computer so they have a cable long enough for their home0 -

Or before you move away from your desk, change the keyboard language - puts off people using your machine (and if they send quick emails and they touch type, they will be gobbledygook!) I used to work with someone who left her son (a 12-year old computer virus on legs) in the office for a couple of minutes while she went to the loo, he managed to change over the language on 3 computers...much confusion!0

Pressing 'print screen' while on the desktop, then setting that image to the desktop background is always a good one too.0
