Afternoon all,
Dandy-Candy - Yep, I saw The Village too. I'd seen it advertised and couldn't quite remember what had happened last series, so I had to have a read up. It looks like it is going to be lots of series' covering a whole lifetime. Brilliant.
Went for a walk with my friend this morning and did a bit of scrumping (naughty) got a nice bag of apples and pears. Had my hair done, roots and trim etc
Popped to Mr T to get a few bits. Came home and cleaned through.
I'm off to London to meet my DD, we are going to Camden first as I have never been and keep on at her to take me, then I think it's Oxford Street to Debenhams to look at tiaras! Very exciting.
Yoga tonight - Am feeling a bit CBA so I will have to push myself to go, although I love it when I am actually there!
Happy Monday0 -
Enjoy yourself Busiscoming. I was in Camden a few weeks ago. I do like it there. X0

Just wanted to say hello - I used to post a lot but life got in the way for a while. My DH has been terribly ill and is still off work 14 months later, so it's all been about survival. Things are settling down a lot now - he's not going to get much better than he is now - so I really need to get back to my old ways.
When I think of the money I've spent since he's been ill.... The worst bit was having to rent a flat in the city centre so that he could be discharged from hospital and so that I was near enough to pop home from work at lunchtime or in an emergency - £950 a month!!!! We've now bought a little house further out now that he can (just about) manage the stairs. I've also got into the habit of eating whatever I fancy (for the comfort) rather than meal planning and eating up what's there. Since we moved further from work I've been buying lunch out way too often.
Anyway, since 1 August I've been walking to work every day (1.6 miles each way) and taking my lunch with me (leftovers to heat up in the work microwave) so I've made a start.
We are going away to Scotland for a week on Friday, so I'm trying to eat up what's in the fridge. I don't want to have to take loads of bits and bobs with me, or waste them.
Nice to see some 'old' faces on here still - like Hardup Hester!0 -
Didn't want to start a new thread so thought I'd post here for advice.
I have 26lb of apples to peel and stew (first pick of the season). The cooking is the easy bit, how long do you think it will take to peel the damn things? I wouldn't mind if it was sunny, I'd just sit outside and do it. In this weather I'd rather iron my bedding and clear my paperwork.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

Juliapenguin - sorry things have been bad for you. What's so nice about this place is you can always join right back in again. I hope things look up for you and your husband. Have a good time in Scotland0

Heck that's like asking how long is a piece of string? Are there any bad bits to cut out? What condition are they in generally. Not much help am I? I think if I were you I'd be tempted to do them in several lots over several days.
Mrsmortonharket I have been thinking of your earlier post all day.Have made an appointment for youngest. He has ASD but I can't cope with him at the moment. I feel dreadful tbh.
You may feel unable to cope with what life is throwing at you but whether you like it or not, you can cope. You will cope.
You've done a remarkable job up to now and your still learning.

Not been posting much recently RL got in the way. Just wanted to say to mrsmortonharket my ds2 was prescribed melatonin to help him sleep. It really made such a big difference to my life and his. I was at the stage of not coping, trying to keep it together on sparodic sleep which went from one extreme waking early hours or staying awaking till just before dawn then falling asleep for a few hours.0

When my DDs in-laws gave me a huge bag of apples last year ,being a frau frugal I too sat and peeled the lot ,cooked and froze them.I battled through the very large carrier bag by having the wireless on and listening to the afternoon play on radio four. Multi-tasking
:):),but then I often listen to the radio in the afternoon especially if I am ironing or cooking/peeling stuff.
The apples lasted me through last winter in pies, crumbles and with custard etc. All packed and frozen in the rectangular plastic take-away boxes that I have a large collection of,donated by my eldest DD who is keen on chinese take-aways
I never have to buy them ,but I think you can get them at about a quid a dozen in the pound shops .great for using for freezing stuff as they stack so well in the freezer. My blackberries that we picked yesterday are now washed and open frozen and packed away in the freezer for cold snowy days next January when they will go into apple and blackberry crumbles and pies for a taste of summer in the winter0 -
Great minds think alike - was time strapped so sorted them, and used the softest 1/3 (ie the easiest to peel) and left the rest to ripen. They really were beautiful pears, gave out a lot of liquid which I reduced and turned into a thick syrup separately before reuniting with the the stewed slices.
In the process of giving the first batch away in manageable portions, am expecting a lot more fruit from my parent's back garden over the next 6 weeks!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
