Looking to get a new kitchen for my parents house.
Approx 15-20 units. Plan not finalised yet.
They are wanting high gloss units, potentially handleless (are they problems with these?)
Ive been looking at the following ranges from DIY kitchens
Innova doors
livorna laquered mdf 18mm
luca handleless laquered mdf gloss 22mm
second nature doors
porter laquered mdf 18mm
remo handleless laquered mdf gloss 22mm
Has anyone got an opinion on quality of these doors? Does the thickness of gloss matter? Im assuming thicker is better.
Quality wise, is innova similar to second nature?
Is there an alternative german brand i could look at that would come in at a similar price to DIY kitchens?

A mate does a lot of german kitchens and has to buy british to get the J handle doors ( handless ).
Some appliances are harder to open with J doors ( integrated ) if its for your parents make sure they can open things like a dishwasher, fridge and especially a freezer.
I have a couple who want to change there doors to conventional handles because the lady keeps braking her nails opening the doors.0 -
Hi Premkit
So you have a friend that does German kitchens but buys English when someone wants handle-less or the 'J' groove door?
The German make we do does both the 'J' groove doors and the proper handleless system but we don't sell the J groove doors because I just think the J groove design is very poor.
In fact the only reason why the J groove system was developed was because in the early days English carcass manufacturers didn't want to change the construction of their carcasses to compete with the true handleless channel system from some German kitchen manufacturers.

So which type of system do Second Nature or Innova do?
J Groove or 'proper' handleless?0 -
Hi Immy
The 18 mm doors from the 2 companies / ranges above are to have handles put on and the 22 mm doors are the J groove type.
Its really only German / European kitchen manufacturers that do the proper handleless channel system.

There are UK companies doing the ' proper handless system' . My supplier do them with curved doors and different colour rail handles. Also Second Nature do the Tomba range though diy kitchens do not sell it as far as I know0

We have the Luca handleless doors from DIY Kitchens and so far so good. No issues opening any of our integrated appliance doors...
Second Nature doors are supposed to be better quality but it was about a third more to get all our doors in the Remo range. We went and saw a Remo kitchen in a showroom and the doors are very nice but it ended up being out of our budget. I have yet to see any real difference between the two ranges, but we've only had the kitchen for a couple of months!

I think second nature doors are manufactured by PWS, where as Innova seems to be a DIY kitchens 'own brand'. Certainly they only supply DIY kitchens and are based in similar location.
Being in scotland restricts us from visiting the DIY kitchen showroom, but i am planning on visiting other suppliers who stock second nature doors to give us an idea of look and feel.
What differences in look and feel between Luca and Remo?0 -
Im pretty sure Luca is a matt finish where as Remo is a gloss finish0

Happy with our carrera painted / lacquered alabaster doors so far0

We didn't visit the showroom either, just went to a local Second Nature stockist for the Remo range and got a sample Luca door sent to us. If I remember correctly the Remo door may have been a little thicker but they both looked and 'felt' the same.0
