LG - 42LS575T 42" LED TV picture disappears

Hello,
I'm looking for some advice. My Lg TV has developed a wee fault: the picture goes off, whilst the sound remains. Sometimes it happens after a few seconds, sometimes after much longer. It's nothing to do with the energy saving mode. The man I spoke to on the Lg helpline suggested it's to do with the television's backlight.
My question is about the necessary repair. Lg and Currys won't help since it's been over a year since I purchased the television. Currys did offer to take it away to look at but for a minimum charge of £95. Since it's not even been two years since I bought the TV, I'm reluctant to spend that much money.
Do any of you know the likely cost of a repair such as this, or of whether or not I might have any rights with Lg or Currys?
Thank you very much.

See the Consumer Rights article. Over a year and less than two years suggests that the set wasn't fit for its purpose and did not last a reasonable period of time, so it should be repaired at no charge to you. Expected life for TV sets is not about a year, it's more like a decade plus.0

I know this is dragging up a thread from a year ago, but did you resolve the issue with your LG TV? I have the same model and it has started doing the same thing.
Thanks!0 -

Have you been installing the Software/Firmware updates? One update appeared to cause and a more recent update improved but hasn't quite eliminated the problem. Now it jusst goes off for a few seconds. I've a five year warranty so not panicking yet. Mainly because I can't be bothered to remove it from the wall.0

Thanks, but the TV is almost 3 years old so I know what Currys will say. The original poster was in a similar position and so I was interested to hear how it worked out for them. Why not try contacting the retailer and see what they say.

I have installed all the latest updates so maybe that has caused issues. Once our screen goes blank though, the only way of getting the picture back is to turn it off and on again.NiftyDigits wrote: »Have you been installing the Software/Firmware updates? Hi
I'm also having the same issues with my LG LS575T model. The screen goes black after a few minutes of working just fine. The sound and remote functions still work and shining a flashlight on the screen reveals the images but very faintly.
Did you manage to resolve your issue, any advice?

For each of these TVs - how long have you had them and how much did they cost? Hopefully you also still have receipts, or bank statements or whatever.
It sounds to me like these sets haven't lasted a 'reasonable' amount of time. For a big, £400 branded TV, say, I think that under 3 years is 'unreasonable'. You need to persuade your retailer of the same thing.0 -
I have a 2013 LG (LA740V I think) that does have the screen going off after a few minutes issue, although it usually resolves itself, for me, and it only lasts a couple of seconds. I think it's the initialisation of the smart functions on mine, as it doesn't do it after the first few minutes of being on. If I go onto the smart functions too soon it can also cause it to freeze - I think it just needs a couple of minutes to warm up and get itself ready. Although it's wi-fi, I have it connected via cable now, which did improve it - previously it would sometimes just lock down all together and I'd have to switch it off at the plug.0
