Threw ticket away now read sticky and not sure what to do

I parked on a road with no yellow lines or other markings, and no signs up at all, along with several other cars, near some roadworks. When I got back to the car 10 minutes later there was a yellow ticket on the window, made out to look like a real one. All the other cars had them too.
I threw it away, but took photos showing that there were no 'no parking' signs up on that side of the road, but when I crossed the road (where there were double yellow lines) I saw a couple of cardboard signs up saying no parking. They look like they'd been added recently and I assume it was a cynical attempt to make money out of people who couldn't park due to the road works in the car park.
I've read the sticky, but it says to appeal as the keeper after around 21 days as the company was JAS.
I can't appeal as I don't have the ticket any more. It's been a couple of weeks already.
So, basically, I'm not sure what to do now. The last time I had this issue the advice was bin it and forget about it and I didn't know things had changed. (The last time, a parking attendant in a car park told me not to worry because the ticket machine was broken and I could park for free, so I did and I got a ticket.)
So, is it okay to leave it until/unless I get something through the post?
Thanks

You should get a Notice to Keeper 29 - 56 days after the parking event. Shame you threw the ticket away as JAS sometimes skip the NtK bit and go straight to debt collector letters, so it has been advised to appeal as RK just before day 28 of the windscreen ticket.
So you'll have to wait for the NtK, and hope it comes along. Once you have your NtK then you can then appeal as Registered Keeper, and if necessary take the case to POPLA and win.
Have a search on JAS in the Forum Search - they are easy to beat.0 -
if a DC letter does come (as is likely) , then use the details on it to appeal direct to JAS alleging you are using it as the first NTK and appealing it using the template letter from the NEWBIES thread0

Thank you. Why has the advice changed? If I just ignored them (which I'm not intending to) could a debt collector turn up at my door?0

Why the hell throw a ticket away ?When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

not without a court order , no
the advice changed when the law changed in oct 2012 , so almost 2 years ago ( its called POFA 2012 ) , so the advice on here changed about 18 MONTHS ago, in FEBRUARY 2013
even the rules on debt collectors etc changed a couple of months ago, so keep up with the changes in the laws0 -
I would write to them saying that you believe that a PCN may have been adhered to your car but the driver threw it away. Could they please send you, as RK, a NtK so that you can take the appropriate action.

Gets round the No NtK - straight to LBCC stage problem.0 -
I threw the ticket away because it was set up to look like a penalty charge notice but it was called a 'parking charge notice' so I thought it was a scam. There were no 'no parking' signs and I wasn't in a car park. I was on a road with no markings. A woman who also parked there just said it was unenforceable and to bin it. Plus, last time something similar happened (just a letter that time - no ticket on the window) the advice here was to bin it.0

sometimes these companies use schills to entrap other motorists
I doubt this "other woman" will help you deal with it and wont pay it for you
this forum has the best advice , so stick to it0 -
I don't think she was a shill. She pulled up behind me as I was leaving and I stopped to warn her about the ticket, but she just laughed and said she didn't care.
There were double yellow lines on the other side of the road which I thought meant that it was a public road.0 -
nope, private roads also have yellow lines, like hospitals, airports , trading estates etc
either way, she hasnt helped you at all , has she ?0
