We're going to Mexico for 2 weeks, we were thinking of Florida but someone told us it's not very relaxing & after a year of planning a wedding I'm going to need the rest
Depends where you go - some bits are wonderfully relaxing. People feel that "as they're there" they have to do disney, parks etc - but it's a lovely pace for a chilled out break, quite aside from that.
For our honeymoon we did 5 nights on Cocoa Beach to unwind from the wedding - very relaxing, nice hotel, just hang out on the beach, eat some food...did go and watch a rocket launch one day, but just kicked back the rest of the time.
Then we did 2 weeks in Orlando - not relaxing...theme parks, water parks, swimming with manatees, dolphins...nights out, shows...
Then we did a few nights in Clearwater to wind down again - incredibly relaxing...hotel with a bar/restaurant on the sand...so spent the days doing hotel-beach-bar-beach-bar-beach-hotel-bar-beach...
Then flew up to NYC for a few days - *not* relaxing....
Don't think about our honeymoon as much as I should - had an amazing time.0 -

I used to love my holidays years ago but since having kids (they are 15 & 13) we haven't been able to afford them and it doesn't bother me that much any more. We are getting married this xmas time so we will both be off work any way for a week or so.
Ah that will be lovely - we don't have kids but I love days at home with the family over Christmas watching cheesy films, making bits in the kitchen, scoffing the mounds of food we've bought... Bliss!krustylouise wrote: »Hi,
We're not going anywhere as DD isn't allowed time off school and her Dad doesn't have transport to get her to school while we're away {also the idea of being without DD for a week/two isn't appealing to me}.
I have no holidays left to take, but we are off together over Christmas so that will be nice, we will go on holiday after Christmas during a school holiday after we've paid for the wedding and Christmas and our birthdays!
That'll be fab - something for you all to look forward to when the wedding mania dies downMy wife to be and I are off to Florida for 3 weeks. Tis where we got engaged, so has a great deal of importance to us.
There are some perfect places to collect momentos of our occasion.
Best place on earth!!!!!! :j0 -

We can't relax in the conventional sense so we love Florida, but the Florida we love isn't made for R&R! There are places you can go for some chill time, but I think I'd prefer mexico!minerva_windsong wrote: »We're going to New York for five nights - fly out two and a half weeks after the wedding so will be something to look forward to and postpone the comedown a bit! It's somewhere we've both always wanted to visit and as neither of us are really beach people (we'd do it for a day then get bored), so a honeymoon of amazing food, iconic sights and world-class museums is perfect
Wow you will have an amazing time - I haven't been to New York since I was 5 but I would love to go back as I barely remember it. With so much to do you'll fill 5 days easily and have some great memories.the_insider wrote: »We've just got back from a music festival for 4 nights, it was exactly what we wanted to do, surrounded by good friends and great music. Do whatever feels right for the two of you and don't feel forced into a big holiday if it's just not what you enjoy, just because it's what other people do for their honeymoons. We spent Sunday night in a campervan in the pouring rain with 11 people we love crammed in and lots of wine and laughter. Perfect!
I don't feel forced into a big honeymoon, I'm super excited about it - I am a holidays personI totally agree that you have to do what's right for you though, some friends of ours did a day trip to Alton Towers with friends and they said it was perfect.

Our honeymoon budget is half the cost of the wedding but we've been very very lucky with members of family helping with the wedding cost. I am wondering though if it's mad to spend so much on 2 weeks and whether we should do 2 average trips in the year rather than one big fancy expensive trip. I'm usually so um... economical... so it alien to me!We got married abroad, so had a week in the sun then. We're then using what we would have spend on a Honeymoon to do fun stuff throughout the year including
Gentlemans Afternoon Tea
Reading Festival
Outdoor Cinema experience
Weekend away in Birmingham
Trip to Dublin
Week in Cornwall
Wow you've got some brilliant things planned! Living on an island it's expensive to go anywhere, but I love the idea, it's like you're extending your wedding celebrations!ruby_eskimo wrote: »We're hopefully going for a week to Disney in Florida and then 5 days in New York (with a day trip to Buffalo thrown in). We're not beach people, I've never been to America and it's just the holiday of a lifetime for us.
Florida is my favourite place! If I had my choice of honeymoon we would be going to Florida - but we were only there in June and I'm getting the wedding I want (he would have done the registry office in jeans the week after we got engaged) so I'm letting him have the honeymoon.0 -

We massively overbudgeted on nearly everything for the wedding so we do have a nice little pot left over but I don't want to spend that until the day itself is done and dusted "just in case" plus I know some of our friends are planning on gifting money to us as they know we are yet to plkan one and also are doing a lot of work on the house at the moment. We get married in June and are hoping to eventually go away towards October time. We'd like to be able to put our savings with any monetary gifts and really plan a "once in a lifetime" holiday hence the waiting.
Our friends did this, I think they waited about 6 months after the wedding and they had a fantastic fortnight in Florida - no worries about cost as the wedding was paid for, and they got to enjoy the wedding afterglow rather than disappearing straight off.Idiophreak wrote: »Depends where you go - some bits are wonderfully relaxing. Your honeymoon sounds great - we struggle to relax but Cocoa beach is lovely and the theme parks are even better! I'm glad you had an amazing time - I hope we're as lucky!
The last holiday I arranged was a disaster (south of France in a caravan in June, rained for 1.5 weeks before we gave up and came home) so I want to have an amazing honeymoon. It's making me a bit paranoid!0 -
We had ten days in Antigua. We had never had a foreign holiday together and it was so relaxing and we loved it so much that we are going back this year at about the same time.0

We got married in June but toured South Africa in the December afterwards, their summer. As it was seven months after the wedding I didn't really class it as our honeymoon but oh did.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

We had a week in a secluded cottage in Pembrokeshire immediately afterwards, and then went to Portugal (Lisbon & Cascais) for 10 days for our 1st anniversary, with the flights, car hire & villa funded by Thomas Cook vouchers as wedding gifts.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I'm usually so good! But we've decided to hell with it! My OH has a very stressful job and we haven't been away in years so it will be well worth it!094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250
