Only that a clue as to what you're talking about, before replying, often helps prevent you looking like a muppet.
Well perhaps you'd care to enlighten us about exactly how the process works. So far, the only thought we've had from you is "I suspect the only difference is whether they have your NI number tied to your licence number." (my emphasis). So instead of hurling insults around the place let's have some insight. Any chance of it?0 -

In fact, the NI number is needed for both "services". The database is the same. To set up a government gateway account you need to provide your NI number. So, are they linking your NI number to your driving record if you use either service? I would think so, but I have no definitive evidence.0 -

so, once this goes live, will all insurers automatically start checking existing policies to make sure all is correctly declared? or will they only check new policies when you apply for new insurance with a different company?0

You can expect them to check at purchase/renewal/in the event of a claim (depending on when any new convictions should be notified) and any other time they feel like it!0

I think you'll need to give forced consent before they can check. And there was some talk about you being able to decline consent and make a declaration instead (but I guess the insurance industry will effectively stop this via T&Cs). I wonder if the DVLA will institute a system whereby searches of your driving record are recorded, in a similar fashion to CRAs recording credit file searches? I also wonder if pigs can fly.
On an earlier point, I'm pretty certain you've never had to give your NI number to obtain a driving licence.0 -
Is there something you haven't told them?Euphoria1z wrote: »so, once this goes live, will all insurers automatically start checking existing policies to make sure all is correctly declared? or will they only check new policies when you apply for new insurance with a different company?
The system requires you to give them your driving licence number and to give them permission to access your records, so they can't just look at the database to check regarding an existing policy. Of course in the event of a claim they can still check your convictions have been properly declared by the old fashioned method of asking to see your driving licence (your policy very likely contains a clause requiring you to show them your licence on demand).0
