Squeaky brakes

Ok I am the first to admit I do not know much about cars.
I have a 2010 ford focus, and my hubby got the brake pads changed back in March it was I think.
Since then they squeak when I hit the brakes. Hubby (he is no expert either) says it is normal for new brake pads as his car did it too..and they need to be broken in.
Now that I have stopped working I only use the car for the school run and local trips... but they are still noisy.
HUbby keeps meaning to get the car checked out but is busy with work.
I am thinking to take the car to a garage myself but don't want to be ripped off or anything if this is in fact normal.

At that time you return it to the fitter.
I know if brakes sqeaking when the pads are getting low, but not when they have been replaced recently and properly.0 -
Either re-used the old retaining clips or not put any copper grease on the back of the pads.
I had 2 new discs and pads fitted as part of the purchase price when buying a car last year. My d/s/f brake started squeaking after 3 months. It doesn't really bother me and it passed the MOT with the squeak, so I won't be bothering to get mine sorted until it goes in for a service.Never Knowingly Understood.

I had wanted to take it back at that time but hubby kept saying it was normal although I wasn't convinced.....
It has had an MOT since and passed. May just leave it until the service then thanks0 -
Some makes of brake discs/pads squeal - Pagid for instance. If you look on car owners forums and Pistonheads, there are plenty of instances of people moaning about squealing brakes, and it is not down to adjustment or wear.
Both our cars have squealing brakes, and they both have Pagid brakes. The good thing is that they stop better (smoothly and quickly) than any other brakes I have fitted.0 -
After a recent cambelt change, my cars front brakes starting making a horrendous squealing noise.
I jacked the car, removed a wheel and found they'd accidentally knocked the heat shield (protects the trackrod end from the heat of the brakes) into the disc, this had scored a groove into the disc, which had I left it any longer would have ruined the disc.
I bent it back with a 75p flat bladed screw driver = no more problem, no MOT failure next year and no replacing the disc.
Dont just leave it, that would be f**king stupid.
People moan about cars costing a fortune in repairs, but I reckon 90% of them could have been prevented by getting the early warning signs checked out.....
Oh and they dont use copper slip on brakes on new cars, it wreaks havoc with abs sensors.
They use graphite grease.
If they haven't used grease, then that would cause the pads to move around and vibrate, its not hard to fix.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

It could be anything from not using the correct fitting kit, pattern parts not fitting exactly in the caliper or just a mismatched material on the pad. Acid test was that they passed the MOT, but I personally couldn't put up with squealing brakes. An hours labour will make them better, greasing them up, without changing any parts.0

cheap pads, lipped discs and new pads, no copper grease, old fitting kit not seated correctly....
all can cause squeal, my guess is new pads on lipped discs. remove the pads and file the corners off0 -

How does it affect the ABS? - I ask because I've just used copper clip on the back of our brake pads to get rid of a grinding noise.0 -

It does not, i always use copper grease and never have any problems.0 -

what a load of rubbish with regards to pagid brake pads. i have always used that make & never have problems with them. i never use copper grease due to having problems. i always use cera tec.
reasons why you get noises from brakes usually from not being fitted properly, such as not cleaning all the brake area when fitting & leaving dirt in the carriers causing noises.0
