How does it affect the ABS? - I ask because I've just used copper clip on the back of our brake pads to get rid of a grinding noise.

Only what I've heard, It sounds plausible if its been slathered on by some moron. All I know is that most manufacturers say its a big NO.
Because its copper, if it got onto the ABS hall sensor it could throw up an error.

I used it on my brakes when I changed the calipers, discs and pads.

It might be that some garages or tyre/exhaust centres tell their staff not to use it.

they have had problems due to either not fitting properly or not bedding them in. if you don't do it properly then any other brand of brakes you'll get the same problems.

Squeaky breaks are annoying, my car has pagid breaks, first set and they have been a huge problem squeaking, fitted correctly, grease correctly and they have bedded in correctly, but they sound horrendous, the cause is pretty clear as it only takes a short time for my front wheels to be covered in brake dust. They have been on the car about five months, I've taken them off several times to clean and regrease which gives me a couple of days at most without squeaking.

Squeaking doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong, but if your brakes do start squeaking it is better to spend a few quid having them checked out instead of leaving it to your next service, your breaks are the only thing to stop you ploughing into other vehicles, they aren't something you should leave to chance.
  • new pads on old discs can cause squeal, cheap pads have cheap meterials in them causes squeal, I buy ferodo premiers not had a single issue with squeal. put pagids on my megane and they squealed like no tomorrow took them off, and put premiers on no issue at all.
