hello!
I am looking for a used car that is the most economical to use (least expensive service, most mileage without needing service, least fuel consumption, etc)
my budget is around 1-2k
which model should I go for?
thanks!
Annual season ticket?
You need to define more what you are after so that the readers can offer a suggestion, example, only hatchbacks are suitable for me, my driving pattern means only petrol will do etc etc.
When it comes to cars, there isn't one hatt fits all, otherwise the only car to buy would be a Mondeo diesel looking at many posts on the board.0 -
I am looking for a small car, since I want it to be the most economic to run.
My main criterion is the most economical ride/maintenance.
I don't care if it runs diesel or petrol, I just need it to be the most economical per mile.0 -

As mentioned, cars vary from owner to owner.
TBH there is not going to be much in it between purchase price and running costs over a year, so if you bought a say Fiesta for £1k and spent £500 in fuel etc, it's no different to getting say a Mondeo for £400 and spending £1100 in fuel etc.
I'll say it again, one cap does not fit all.
Small engine does not alwys mean high MPG, large engine does not always mean low MPG.
Even then say Corsa vs Fiesta there is probably little or nothing between them, certainly not enough to say never buy one and always the other.0 -
ok, you can suggest me more than one car0

The only way to find out what is most economical per mile is to have information about how many miles you do per year, how long and how many miles is your average journey?
If you only do short journeys and not many miles per year then a petrol i most economic.
If you do long journeys and excessive mileage a year, then it will be a diesel.
No car is economic until you work it out against what you need a car for.0 -

Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec petrol. Cheap as chips to buy, rarely break down, parts are cheap, servicing cheap.
If you dont want something that big, a Renault clio 1.2 petrol.0 -
Small car most economical to run? Err not quite. Buy something like a 1400cc daewoo and you may find its dearer to tax than a 2L car.
I have a ton and a half Mondeo estate yet it will average close to 60mpg on a run.
I think you need to sit down more and work out what YOU need in a car.
Low fuel consumption and / or a low tax group isnt the be all of cheap motoring. A starter motor and an alternator costs double for my FIL's KIA than my car. And they needed to order it in where my parts are on the shelf.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You can pick up a decent spec Punto MK2 for that kind of money.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Loads of false assumptions there.
Small cars are not always the cheapest to run - and the choice of petrol or diesel could have wallet-emptying repercussions.
The length of your average journey comes into it too.
What do you need this car for?
Passengers? Children? Luggage space needed?
There are too many variables (for me at any rate) to meaningfully suggest anything.0
