sounds as if they had a skivvy trawling all the old cases and sent out hundreds of SCARY DEBT COLLECTOR TEMPLATE LETTERS to the unwary and vulnerable

they do this in the hope of bullying people into sending them money they dont deserve, so they can stay in business doing it all oever again on monday , and next friday too

everytime they do this we get dozens of posts about it, no matter which debt collector it is

Someone in their office must have spent the last penny in petty cash to buy tea bags and biscuits again...
  • I've just been reading the sticky threads which talk about appealing to Popla. Sorry if I'm being slow, but is this something that should be done for old charges? And what does this achieve? I know I'm worrying about it all again because of this recent letter & I can see why people would just pay to make it all go away. Just want to know what my rights are for something that happened over 3 years ago.

Moonflowers - POPLA really only applies to tickets from 1st October 2012, which is when POFA (Protection Of Freedoms Act) came into force for England and Wales only (Scotland and Northern Ireland stay as they were).

Have you had a read of the NEWBIES thread that Coupon-Mad wrote as that contains a lot of useful information?

If not, please do so and then start your own thread as we need to keep one thread to one person's ticket.

Popla was only available for tickets from October 2012, so not retrospective for tickets before that date . You did the right thing at the time, and to be honest that still works even now, though we don't recommend it as some parking companies are litigant now .
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

  • Thanks Mothballs - I did have a look at the Newbies thread but to be honest there were so many things there I started to get confused. I'll have another look tho. I didnt realise that Popla only applied to more recent cases. Sorry for posting in this thread, but I thought seeing as we're all talking about old cases that my questions would be relevant to other people as well.

The best things to do with the Newbies thread are:
    1. Make yourself a cup of tea (or your favourite beverage)
    2. Sit down in your favourite comfy chair
    3. Take your time reading through it
    4. Give your head a chance to absorb info and don't rush
    5. And, above all, DON'T PANIC! :D
(Can you tell I'm a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy fan?)

To be honest, this thread seems to be more about an older case from a specific PPC firm rather than older cases in general.

Moonflowers - I'm very happy for you to add to my thread. As Mothballswallet says, this is a specific firm and relates to older notices so I think the more general advice we can get on one thread, the better in case anyone else has had the same letter drop through their letterbox.
  • I guess someone decided to do another mail merge of old clients to add a few quid to the end of year party fund. I got one of these today from an old ticket back in 2010 I think. I'll await a formal court summons before losing any sleep!!!!

    Hi everyone

Add me to the list, I've had a letter from Rossendales Collect this morning about an unfair Excel ticket given in 2010. We appealed at the time, didn't receive a reply to the appeal and haven't had a scrap of correspondence from them since until this letter today!
