I've started a job working from home that I can do whenever I want so it doesn't impact on mine or my kids lives. I've worked it out to be about an extra 200/300£ per month plus its paid weekly so all good there. The money is going to be used to replace the stuff we need for starters - cooker, washing machine, crockery etc to make the place a bit more liveable.

ynab is making a difference as it means that I'm actually thinking about spending before I do it to make sure that I have enough money allocated in that 'pot'. I'm actually starting to feel a bit more optimistic and that barring all major catastrophes I may be able to actually start making some headway with all of this (fingers and everything else crossed).
  • Do you currently have an emergency pot? If not, maybe save half and spend half until you build up a cushion.

Great work and good to see you cheerfully 'cracking on' again. We all lose the will occasionally but it does come back!

yes it does, and it feels good when it happens. I'm not going to let this beat me, ok there's bumps in the road that send me off course but I will get free of this debt and I will have a life that doesn't rely on credit. I never want to touch that evil monster as long as I live.

Infact I've been back in touch with the ex over the last week or so and if ever I needed confirmation that I made the right decision to make him an ex then I have it. He's in part time work running between 2 sites, has been given & taken 3 credit cards so far and is spending on them, paying them off in full so he has had his credit limit raised. He now plans to apply for another in about 6 months then do the same, plan is that when the work dies (he's on seasonal contracts he holds on for as long as he can then he 'goes bump' owing the lot. which I think means that he plans to rack up debt fully knowing he is never going to be able to pay it back only to go bankrupt in the future. What did I ever see in him??? I know I had a lucky escape now :)

I've also been working out some figures about this job from home, by doing 2 hours this morning and doing that every day (or the equivalent of - some more days and some days off) I would earn the equivalent of an extra months salary over the course of a year. Seems a bit of a no brainer to me.

Short week at work for me this week with the bank holiday and I've got all next week off so that will save me some £ in travel costs. Plenty of food in the cupboards and leccie in the meter, am I living in someone else's house or something?

Not knocking it - long may it continue!

Ok extra days without travel expenses as working from home for a couple of days, it all helps! I got my first payment from the work at home job and it was there to the penny so I'm confident of carrying on and trying to get a regular income stream going there.

Life is ticking over quite nicely at the moment.

Nice relaxing bank holiday and I've got the whole of next week off as well so I plan to do some of the home job I have and try and get a decent weeks pay in from that. First full week I finished on £60 which is more than I expected so all good there :) money is paid next week.

there's something a bit weird going on with my bank account, all the bills have been paid for the month so far with no problems. No bounced payments and no account fees to pay which is a really weird position to be in. Leccie meter filled to last till end of the month (what!) and food enough for next week and maybe into the next. £580 left to last me to payday (22nd) and that has to cover a weeks worth of groceries and a travel pass for one week (£25) and that's it i.e. for the first time in about 2 years I finally have some residual income. OMG!!!

I'm not going to do anything rash with it, for now I build up a buffer of an emergency fund. If I do the same again next month with full time job wages plus job from home plus budgeting better its a revised SOA then revised offers to all creditors. That's the plan anyway unless something jumps up and bites me on the butt (like it always seems to... ) Nope I'm not going to be negative - time to shake this off and be hopeful and in the words of the advertising brand - just do it!
