I want advice from someone who know about appeals. Well this is my story i am in second year in my degree but fell pregnant and i had to retake two modules. With the timing of the resits i struglled and failed the modules however i appealed and got and an extra attempt to try to pass. I did pass one abut the other. Anyway they said i have exhausted the amount of times i can pass the modules which is three and i hvae had about five. I appealed and they said i caanot proceed on the degree 3rd yr). i really want to complete this cousre as i have an £9,000 going onto £10,000 to pay off and i am never going to get a job that gives me £15,000 without an degree. Any advice would be great.

if they're refusing to let you finish the degree you're on, would it be worth trying to change subject to finish?
have you spoken to anyone at student services or your NUS committee to get help from?:happyhear0 -
Did you keep the child and when during/after the pregnancy did the resits happen?0

Is it just this module that they're not letting you retake? I've known people who have had 'no resit permitted' for a failed module but they've been allowed to take others to make up their credits. Is this the case here or is this a compulsory module?0

Can you repeat the year?Signature removed for peace of mind0

thanks for all your advice. I cannot repeat cos the amounts of times i have taken the module. My argument is that i am in a better position to retake as the kids are older. the module is compulsory and i failed by 1%.0

Does your uni have 'condoned fails'? I know of a few people who've scored between 30-39% and although it's technically a fail it's 'condoned' by the uni and they're allowed to carry on, especially if they've had extenuating circumstances. Is this an option for you?
Or, could you switch your degree? If you're not allowed to carry on with one subject or retake the year, could you go into the second year of another subject? Sometimes this is allowed ...
My uni had an academic support assistant for each department who could help in cases like this, have you got anything similar and have you spoken to them, as they would know your uni's regulations inside out and might be able to suggest something to help you.0 -
What subject are you studying?
If it is a non-vocational course, I would suggest trying to change your subject too.
Depending on the subject, you could change the actual name of your degree and yet do much the same modules. Well, you could at my uni anyway, but it does depend a lot on what you are studying.0 -
I do think you need some advice from the Student Union at your university, because if you have exhausted the number of times you can take and not pass a module, nothing we say is going to change that. I hope you can understand that universities do set a limit on the number of times an option can be re-attempted to avoid the 'perpetual student syndrome'.
It may not be what you wanted, but you would certainly be able to put the modules you have already passed towards credits on an Open University degree.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
what i would do personally is change unis. show the new uni your last years grades (the ones you achieved before your preganancy) and just make an excuse that your having to change unis because the uni you were at is too far from where you live or summut. like most things in life have a bit of a moan and a weep with the new uni admissions tutor and they will see you through - i had a friend who did the same and managed to get through - no probs!
PS for the sake of one percent - they ought to have passed you - whoever marked your paper is just not human considering all you have been through.0
