Our plusnet one packed up and cannot get a replacement out of plusnet. Have a wired in one working at the moment, but really want to get back to wireless too. Have been given an assortment of old routers from friends to try, but not having much luck. Is it worth try any of these? BT home hub 2.0 & 3.0, Netgear DG834PN, Technicolour (02) & a Zoom!
thanks from a very non techie!!

Dont understand why Plusnet wont provide you with a new router. My approach would be OK Plusnet would you please provide me with a MAC so I can move to another ISP.
MAC = Migration Authorisation Code. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
+1 dead easy to get out of an ISP.
Kick off the process for moving (requesting a MAC code to port yourself to another provider) when quizzed for a reason by the retention team say you were very happy wiht the service but your router has packed up, since you can't afford one (well plead poverty) and plusnet won;t supply a free repplacement you are being forced to switch ISP to one who will provide a free one on signup
-no need to tell them 'who' (tell them it's none of their business), especially if you haven't decided yet (but again don;t tell them that last bit... perhaps that you have one in mind that at a per month price you're happy with.
worst case you end up needing to switch providers (in which case do use a cashback site to nab a few ££s sales commission for referring yourself

Are you on Fibre or ADSL?
The Netgear one will certainly work, and in deed I used to use an older version of it with my Plus.Net account before switching to Apple. The non-BT hubs should also work but I dont know them. BT hubs I've not used so dont know how much they lock down the settings.
Plus.Net wont officially help you set up a non-plus.net router but their website has all the details you need to set it up as long as you know your username and password etc.
You could use the leaving trick to try and get another free one out of them but this only works if you are currently out of contract period and not if you are still in the locked in phase.0 -
Surely if you are still in contract then the supply of goods and services act comes into play?0

I am with Plusnet (on ADSL) and use my old BT Homehub. There is a small change you need to make to the settings of the Homehub to make it work with Plusnet. You will find the details of how to do this on the Plusnet forum.0

Thanks for all the replies - we cannot get a free replacement as we are not on a contract and the only way they will do this is if we change to one (& financially it doesn't add up!)
We're on ADSL
SpanishBlue - have tried looking for the BT hub change on the forum but without luck, could you point me in the right direction please?0 -
So a 12 month contract is no cheaper than paying monthly?tinateaspoon wrote: »we cannot get a free replacement as we are not on a contract and the only way they will do this is if we change to one (& financially it doesn't add up!)0 -

[QUOTE- we cannot get a free replacement as we are not on a contract
..meaning you pay monthly I take it, and you can leave whenever you want? I also pay monthly, not on a contract, and I've never had a problem in the past with Plusnet sending me a new router due to one being faulty. You may have to pay postage costs but can't see why they're not sending a replacement. Their product should be fit for purpose.0
