Many places have proper application forms which need to be filled in, all the major supermarkets need this and debenhams have them too. CV's arent a lot of good in this field.

Customer services usually holds application forms. Generally a form will be looked at first as the applicant has made the effort to come in and get a form rather than just mail shotting the whole town.

I worked for Asda when I turned 16 and stayed for a few years whilst I was at school and college. They were a good company to work for. I worked a Thursday and Friday evening and all day Saturday. When the school holidays came around there was always full time shifts to be had to cover all the full time workers holidays. I had written to every supermarket and shop in town and Asda gave me the first interview and job offer which is why I went with them. It was also helpful to my mum as we all got 10% discount.

How about local libraries? I work in the library service and we employ students over 16. Our libraries are open on Saturdays and Sundays as well as evenings so there's plenty of work that fits around studying. As its local government, our county also pays time and a half for Saturdays and Sundays so it is fantastic money for a 16 year old.

I worked for Boots as a student on Saturdays and found them great to work for. I would have thought the supermarkets are one of the best places to try.

Next employ casual staff when it is their sales. You usually have to ask in store for an application form. If she gets in, they may keep her on PT if they like her.
  • When I was 16 I filled out an application form for Iceland Frozen Foods and a few months later they called me in and gave me a weekend job. AT the time I thought it was because of my wonderful application form (hah!) but as time went on I realised it was because my form had come to the top of the pile.

I would suggest your daughter gets application forms for her nearest supermarkets. She can work weekends, and maybe one evening a week and then come school holidays she may be lucky enough to get more hours during the week too.

What about a job agency? They normally have various temp jobs. Granted they're not going to be anything particularly thrilling but they normally have jobs where big staff turnarounds are expected.
  • Success!!!! My daughter just got a job as a p/t waitress at the Hilton Hotel :j Thanks for all the suggestions.

To anyone else interested in this thread she got the job through caterer.com - it's extremely easy, just upload your cv and apply for jobs online. This job clearly stated that they were looking to employ college/uni students and she can fit her hours around college to suit.

    Well done!

Fast food joints are also ideal I think. That is what my daughter has been doing and I am hoping to get my son into it as well.

How about training as a lifeguard? Pools always need them and the qualification looks good on a CV. Both my children (18 & 16) have qualified as lifeguards and swimming teachers - opens up loads of opportunities espicailly if off to uni (as the 18 yr old will hopefully be when results come out on Thursday!!!) :T
