HI there - I'm after some ideas or tips, I have been given a lovely wool rug but I've noticed that it's got a bit of a stale smell that lingers on it - is there any way of making somme sort of shake & vac type powder to put on then hoover up??
many thanks

Hi
Bicarb is good for getting rid of smells, you could try sprinkling it on leaving it for a bit and vacumming. Used to put it in my step-son's trainers overnight and it got rid of that horrid cat wee smell!

Bicarb is the best, sprikle on generously, leave for a while (perhaps ovenight) then vac throughly. Try also hanging outside on a sunny day, the sunlight helps to breakdown the smelly compounds and the fresh air blows them away."doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0

Hi boredjellybean,
As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to the existing thead on the same topic which should help.

My dog came out in big lumps when I used shake n Vac, she was allergic to it so stopped using it as she looked awful covered in huge hairy lumps! Poor dog.
I use febreeze type spray on the sofa's, makes the room smell nice.
The only thing is I think 99% of the population have leather sofa's so you can't really spray them ( mine are fabric).
Yes, one of my cats became dizzy and wheezy when I used this, so I stopped, and used the bicarb instead. Apparently some small animals are sensitive to it, having checked with a vet. Anyway, it's overpriced, so although no longer having pets I still don't use it.0 -
Liking this thread. Not many stores stock Shake n vac. It saved my bacon one weekend with visitors. I use febreeze or whatever I can get my hand on otherwise. Will make my own. I have cornstarch, and always have lavender essential oil, a perfect fragrance. Just need bicarb.
I would definitely prefer one with natural ingredients, as gentle on the skin, and not harmful.Oh well...

I actually think shake and vac is cheaper. I normally pay £1 for 500g.
I buy a 180g pack of bicarbonate of soda from Aldi. I am unsure of the exact price but it is around 50p.
The same amount of shake and vac would only cost 36p.0 -
I might try sprinkling washing powder on the carpet. The Tesco value stuff is only 84p per kg.0
