Or a less bad typo for a 406?

Could be - '96 was right on the change-over beween ranges. The early 406 diesel was he same engine and box, though, so should be pretty similar to do.

Yes, meant to say it's a 406. An early one with the XUD engine.

It's a simple job to change the oil on one of these but will go for the National Tyres offer. Can't find my kit and running out of time so 32-odd quid is fine for me. Especially as that includes getting rid of the old oil.

Just make sure they use the correct oil for your engine.

I used to work for a fairly large dealership that would service other makes of cars as well. Regardless of the car that came in, they all got the same generic oil.

As long it's ok for diesels that's fine for me. It's an 18 year old car and doesn't get driven hard so not going to pay extra for synthetic etc.

Yep, another advantage of the XUD. May not be he mos refined, or powerful, engine out there but it doesn't hrow a hissy fit if it drinks something (oil or fuel) that's a little outside the recommended spec.

Unlike more modern engines that you can break by waving a tin of 20W50 at as they drive past :D

I have a Bosch pump on mine so it will happily run on a veg oil mix. Did 5500 miles round Europe last summer on an average 50/50 mix. In Norway it probably went as high as 80% veg oil (due to Norwegian fuel being eye-wateringly expensive) and the only tiny issue was about 3-4 seconds of misfiring when starting from stone cold.

Bought the car to use for a few months. That was 3 and a bit years ago. No intention of getting rid of it. Bangernomics!!!
