What is cheaper in your local shop?

Have a question for everyone: what have you found is cheaper in your local shop than your supermarket? Apparently the supermarkets always make sure that certain products that we use to compare prices in the two eg baked beans, milk, bread etc are always cheaper to buy from them, whereas other things are definitely more expensive. They reckon that we only compare prices on certain things because we cannot remember any more or can't be bothered. (hope that makes sense!) Are supermarkets being sneaky or am I just cynical? Anyway, the only thing I regularly by from the local shop are kitchen towels and OH regularly buys lager. What about you?

Edit: by supermarket I mean Tesco, Sainsburys or Asda

Absoutely nothing! My local rip-off merchant would charge a mark up on newspapers & postage stamps if we didn't keep an eye on the till! It's a shame beacuse as a local independent retailer I'd like to support him, but not at 3 times the price! Hope others have better luck than me!

My local shop is extorinate on things that dont already have a price on (ie magazines and special packings on crisps etc). I too would like to support a local community shop but with these prices, and the abysmal service we receive no wonder people go to asda etc. Their only saving grace is their alcohol is stupidly cheap tho so i suppose the expensive food washed down with mega cheap booze is ok.

Our local greengrocers is ALWAYS cheaper for fruit and veg, and bizarely our local shop/newsagents always has good offers on biscuits. But we don't have many small shops near us, so there's not really many places other than the supermarkets to get your shopping. I wish we had a butchers as I find supermarket meat can be a bit hit and miss (mainly just miss!).

Our local shop is pretty good for "8 cans for a fiver" deals & the like on beer, but that's about it. I shop there very rarely; every time I pop in for milk they never have any!

My "local shop" is Aldi :D the only one in relatively short walking distance so prices very good. For fruit and veg though it is far cheaper and nicer at our local farm shop HUGE bag apples for £2! Most supermarkets only give you about 6 - 8 apples for this.

We only have a co-op as a local shop, and they do tend to be expensive. However, it has its uses...particularly where chocolate Ambrosia custard is concerned. None of our local large supermarkets stock it, but our local small co-op does.

Our little shop is both well stocked and reasonably priced; the meat, bread and veg is all local and the quality is superb! Cheaper than supermarket stuff too.....the only things that are a bit more expensive are 'luxury' items, say, canned/bottled sauces and things like olives. I do most of my shopping there and would do even if my nearest supermarket wasn't 15 miles away!!

Not a single thing that I've ever checked. Even when it's "on offer" the things have been cheaper to buy elsewhere. The only possible savings are end of range almost or past their date on things that nobody really wants to buy 'cos that's why they're stuck with them.
