Comtrend Powerline Adapter Safety issue

Hoping someone here can help me or point me in the right direction?

Certain older Comtrend Powerline Adapters have a safety issue and are being replaced by BT (as far as I know it is the older ones without the through 3 pin plug on the front - one of the models is 10PF) -see ww.thinkbroadband.com/news/4426-bt-issues-safety-notice-over-comtrend-powerline-adapters.html.

These have been confirmed as potentially dangerous as in there is an electrocution risk.

My problem is I didn't buy these from BT (probably from ebay, I can't recall). As far as I know these are a BT commissioned product only available from BT Vision or their online shop. BT are saying they cannot trace I ever bought them from them (which is true) however it seems to me they should not be allowed to get around a clear H&S issue by saying I didn't buy from them.

Afterall if you bought a second hand car and there was a manufacturer's safety recall you would still benefit from that recall.

Can anybody suggest how i go about getting these swapped over - I paid good money for them in a legitimatr sale and ot looks as though BT can just wash their hands of this.

Thanks all

Steve

Hi. As they didn't supply the equipment your purchase of the pla's is nothing to do with BT. You should pursue the seller for a refund.

BT didn't sell these items to you. Your only recourse is the original seller and if they will not take responsibility then you will just have to throw the items away and replace them at your own cost.

I can't understand why you seriously think BT should have any liability?

I understand what you are saying however BT exclusively supplied these items, there is a risk to life with them therefore I feel BT should be responsible. Do you think that once you bought a second hand car that the manufacturers shouldn't be responsible for the safety recalls of that vehicle or should you pursue the original person that sold the car to you?

As for going after the original ebay seller this was sometime ago now and my ebay records don't go back that far. To be fair to the seller i doubt they knew of the recall or they would have had them replaced.

You circumvented BT by buying from an independent seller.

I don't know why you keep harping on about second-hand cars as they are irrelevant.

There are many sellers on eBay who sell OEM equipment.

If the PLA is not BT branded then anyone could have supplied the equipment.

You could try approaching Comtrend directly as they manufactured it... but I have to agree with the other responders, the responsibility lies with the seller.

...if you take your 2nd hand car/safety recall analogy to its logical conclusion then Comtrend are the manufacturers and therefore "responsible" -not BT!:)

Indeed, this would make BT the retailer and since the OP didn't purchase them from BT, BT can rightly tell the OP to take a hike.
