The debit card should be linked to a bank account. Depending on the account, you should be able to transfer money from one account to the other. Speak to the bank that provides the debit card to arrange this.

no I mean to a non-linked account, in order to make a payment, eg my rent

I am with Natwest and I can do this on my online bank account. The only thing is I have to use the chip and pin machine they sent me to set up the payment (I don't need to use it for subsequent payments to the same person). If you don't want to actually contact your bank you may need to order a machine as I think many of the banks have the same system.

You'd use your online banking to send it from your "debit card" (aka your bank account) to the other persons account. Depending on the technology your bank uses you may need the physical card or not to validate your identity if this is a new payee.

Alternatively you can do the same in your bank in person.

All of these are just a Faster Pay or BACS payment though not a debit card payment.

What sort of debit card is it? VISA? Mastercard? Which UK bank has issued it? Have you got online access to your bank account the debit card belongs to?

In UK all debit cards are linked to some bank account. Use online/telephone banking to transfer money from this account to the account you want.

    VISA? Mastercard?
    Does this make any difference?
That said, very few banks/BSs in UK issue debit Mastercards. Most Mastercards in UK are prepaid cards.

Yes it does possibly make a difference. I am trying to establish what sort of debit card the OP is talking about, and which bank issued it. For all we know, it might not actually be a UK debit card, or any debit card, at all. I do know just as well as you do that most UK debit cards are VISA branded but thank you for reminding me.

It was a hint to the OP that if his card is a UK Mastercard then very likely it's not a debit card, not a reminder to you. And I still don't see what difference it can make if the OP tells us what bank issued the card.

The debit card might have been issued by a non-UK bank, and the answer to the OP's Q might therefore be slightly different.

Please let me know if I need to test my questions with you before I post them.
