They say it comes in threes!

Options
I seem to be having a real run of bad luck lately.

About two weeks ago I was collecting my son from school with my then eight week old daughter in my arms when a transit van making a delivery to the school reversed into me.

He hit me on my right hand side, although luckily I was holding my baby in my left hand with her head resting on my shoulder, and my son was walking to the left of me otherwise the van would have hit him.

I suffered some damage to my shoulder and neck muscles and I've been finding it hard to hold my baby on my right side. I tried to see it as "it could have been worse" and I've been ploughing on, but then today my car was hit by a drunk driver and the pain has got a lot worse, which is obviously attributable to the force of the crash.

The driver was very abusive to me (even though she swung straight out of a junction and hit me!) and I found it quite intimidating. Luckily a solicitor witnessed the crash and stepped in, telling the other driver to stop shouting and to calm down but then the driver assaulted her so the witness called the Police.

The driver was arrested for drink driving and for assault and there's some damage to my car, but again it could be worse.

But it's got me thinking, they say it comes in threes and I've already had two, what's going to be next? I've already joked to my husband that I'm going to stay away from building sites and train stations to avoid other big vehicles hitting me! :rotfl:

It made me wonder if anyone else on here has had any runs of bad luck they'd like to share?...

    Oh my goodness!
Hope your ok, have you been checked over?

The first incident was very lucky in comparison, it really could of been a different story ;(

I tend to get a whirlwind of bad luck, then good luck appears to compensate.
    I`m not very superstitious.

Fingers crossed the third is good luck!

I think you are very lucky - to be alive! someone up there was looking out for you!
just be vigilant because obviously traffic is an 'issue'. and I do believe that it does come in 'threes'.
Hopefully the next will be very minor!

    Yikes!

Yes we've had 3 car related incidences in the last couple of weeks.

The first my husbands car just cut out in the fast lane of the motorway and a lorry was in the middle lane unable to see we were in difficulty.

That car in for repair, we went to a supermarket in the courtesy car and got a puncture.

Tonight I called at a shopping precinct to have a look at birthday presents for a colleague, on my return my car keys wouldn't work and open the door. Called husband out, just as he got to me with spares my keys started working.

yes, He certainly has been looking out for me!

I do consider myself to be a careful and vigilant driver. With the van I honestly didn't even hear it coming, but with the drunk driver today I saw her swing out and thought "she's going really fast" then I heard the bang of her smacking into my car!

savingmummy I got checked over the first time, but not tonight I'm going to get into the drs and the first oppurtunity as I want to get the kids checked over too just to be on the safe side x

spendless you've certainly had more than your fair share, the first incident sounds terrifying! I can't believe you didn't get hit by anything, you must have been so frightened :eek:

the last incident did make me laugh though - lucky your husband came to the rescue.

I'm wondering if my daughter's birth was actually the first incident; I had a few contractions and started being sick, then felt her head coming out so had to give birth on my kitchen floor with the aid of a paramedic! She was still in her sac and had to be resuscitated - the whole thing took eighteen minutes.

I wouldn't consider that "bad luck" - it was an usual but miraculous birth as she was completely fine, but it certainly was very scary!

If you claim on your insurance, don't forget to claim for new car seats too. They should be replaced after even a minor bump as you never know what may have cracked inside.

I cant add to the great advice given already. Just wanted to say that I am sorry for all you have been through lately. I hope you are all okay and that life settles down now. Take care :)
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I feel for you Marywooyeah! We've had two bouts of bad luck so far so just wondering what the third will be. First was a lorry deciding to play bumper cars with us on our way back of holiday. Thanksfully I suffered only a neck strain, my husband and 2 year old were fine but being 23 weeks pregnant at the time didn't help cue lots of worrying about whether the baby had been hurt. Quick trip to the hospital showed baby was fine, good job I have plenty of padding :D Then this weekend I received a letter from the hospital to say I'd been diagnosed with gestational diabetes so they think they might induce me at 38 weeks.

Fingers crossed we've all had our fair share ;)

Did the Solicitor offer the services of there Company as by rights you have to potential claims here to be made for personal injury and the first may equate to roughly £1500 - £2500.00 and the second may be around the same amount if not more.

I would put claims in for both here.

thank you - do you mean new car seats for the children, or the entire car? I'm not going to claim on my insurance as there's only a bit of minor damage to the back bumper and it's not worth losing y no claims/paying excess over, but I intend to replace the children's car seats to be on the safe side.

Northern It sounds like you've been through the mill, I'm so glad your baby is ok you must have been very relieved. Fingers crossed for a safe delivery.

As for the diabeties, it seems to be really common in pregnant women, when I was in the MSE Pregnancy Club the majority of the women on there seemed to have been diagnosed with it. I hope it's not too bad but at least it will go once the baby arrives.

Stevie the solicitor practised an entirely different area of law to personal injury so I can't instruct her, but I have already instructed a solicitor in relation to the van incident.

I've been n a lot of pain today and am hoping to see the gp tommorow, but I'll probably issue another claim in respest of the drunk driver for exacerbating the injuries from the first incident.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. :( Thankfully the children are ok. Do get your painful shoulder and neck checked so there is a trail of medical evidence should your symptoms not resolve. Consider asking your GP to refer you for physio if the pain continues to be intrusive and/or you find your neck/arm range of movement becomes restricted.

I had a couple of low speed bumps (not my fault - a van reversed into me and someone drove into the back of me when I was stationery at a junction - a work collegue helpfully suggested I must have a bullseye painted on my car). 15 years on the symptoms have still not fully resolved and I needed 9 months of physio again last year as the pain and restricted movement had become so intrusive again (I do have other health problems that don't help)

The likelyhood is that you will be fine, but not all low impact injuries/whiplash sort themselves out quickly.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
