Why did you not just accept the wine and gift card and then you would have got cheap wine with no loss as presumably you could spend the gift card next time you shop there? Some places do have deranged procedures but that is their prerogative I suppose."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Whats the issue here ?
Today in Asda, I picked a bottle of wine reduced to sell from £6 to £3, at the checkout it went through at £5.50, which is never surprising at Asda, I queried it and someone was sent to check it, he came back and said it is £3 but they can't sell it to me for that,
I'll have to pay £6 and accept an Asda gift card for the £3 difference. I stood as long as I could and argued how ridiculous this was but he wouldn't budge and the queue was building so I walked out.
I've emailed customer services with the details and am waiting for their response. I've never heard of anything so stupid and I am also looking to see if it's illegal to clearly mark and item with a price and then refuse to sell it even though they admit it's the right price.0 -

It's not illegal to make a mistake.
It is illegal under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 to knowingly leave the incorrect advertising in place after the mistake has been pointed out.0 -
Could it be something to do with the sale of alcohol regulations? I know on home shopping they are now not allowed to substitute one product for something that has more in it e.g you cannot substitute 70cl vodka for 1litre or 12 cans lager for a 20 can pack anymore. And it's all to do with regulations! Maybe it might be something similar and the only way they could get round it is to give you the voucher!0

Asda is the Brit arm of Walmart. Enough said :cool:0

If this is the worst thing you've got to worry about, I envy you.

I say get lawyer'd up and take the thieving gits to court, really take them to the cleaners with this one. You could have been pregnant and slipped on the reduced wine that turned out not be reduced.
As for "Another entitled poster". If someone offers you a deal which you want to accept, take the time to go to the store to get that deal but they then change the implies terms at the checkout, then you are entitled to moan about it.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
Clearly not an M&S shopper or you would know that they sell lots of wine for less than £9 a bottle. Currently slurping a nice chilled rose at £5.19 a bottle. Currently you can get 25% off if you buy 6 bottles of wine, so very MSE!
Sorry, no symbol for clinking wine glasses!
They also do a very nice dry Italian white wine for much less than £9......
Asda really are a crappy shop, in all ways....
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Anyone got any contact details for someone senior in ASDA who takes complaints seriously?
I had a home delivery order last week and the driver drove over my daughters bike and mullered it. I've rung customer services to try to get them to replace it, they passed me onto the store the delivery came from who now have passed me over to a third party legal firm who deal with their claims. Every time I ring it is someone else's problem and i'm fed up with it.0
