Head Units
Am having a look at replacing the default head unit in my new Kia Rio with a better system with built in sat nav. Not overly enamoured with the default Kia one and the addon DAB that cost £250 is a pain to use at times.
Any recommendations? I'm lead to believe that they are all fairly standard, no? Would like one with sat nav, bluetooth and DAB clearly.
Am getting a steering wheel switch replaced tomorrow so will ask the Kia service guys about it but am sure they'll recommend the Kia one, which doesn't seem to get good reviews.

What's the fitting like? Many modern cars do not really lend themselves to aftermarket radio's any more, in my car the main unit is elsewhere, the front is really just a display for the audio and car stuff, fortunately it had dab as standard, and I had to pay a premium for sat nav as I was tired of trailing wires and battery not charged for accessories.0

Not sure how the fitting works. Info from a Kia owners forum suggests that any 2 din head unit can be made to fit. Issue of course is likely to be integration with the steering wheel controls etc. I'll be asking Kia tomorrow but was browsing through a few sites tonight and theres loads of them!0 -

Without seeing a picture of what yours looks like, it's hard to say, looking at this modern Kia Rio that doesn't look like a standard 2 din fit to me.0 -
This is it close up:

You might be right about it not being standard, I honestly haven't a clue.0 -

looks like an adaptor plate is available but may be a big job and not cheap :eek:0 -
That's not a standard double DIN fitment, these (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=double+din+stereo&rlz=1C1AVNC_enGB597GB597&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=657eU72RBvTG7AbOjoD4Ag&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg&biw=1276&bih=567) are double din units. I would say you're stuck with the KIA fitments.0

Yes, you will require a replacement facia, I had a look on the Pioneer site, you may need some leads too, so you are talking a good £120ish for facia and leads before you even get the radio, and hoping you can self fit. Some head units are worth the upgrade though. With my last car I should have done that early on.0 -

There's one specifically Rio compatible, apparently:

But yeah the OEM unit is grand for what it is, but I'd like satnav, and I think it is worth integrating it if it doesn't cause too much hassle.
I wouldn't even attempt to self fit though, prepared to pay for it to be done properly.0 -

That one in the link looks good, the only 'hassle' would be mounting the GPS aerial, which ideally should be on the roof, which means perhaps drilling the roof panel (warranty?) But that outfit there in Droitwich, appear to effectively ensure that the new unit is as factory fit, plus with the addtional features , should be good to go.0
