Ipad slowing down

We have got an ipad 2 running ios 7.1.1 it has noticably slowed over the last couple of months, most noticably internet browsing speeds in opening website pages ie the daily mail. Anyone else notice a slowing up in general on these devices.

Have you closed pages when finished with them?
Double tap the button on the front and all the open pages will appear, slide each one up to close.
Only found this out when DWs iPad was slowing down so I asked a teenager.

It's more likely down to your DNS settings, just a guess. I am assuming you are using it over wifi, but the same is true if it's 3g/4g. Do you have a PC at home exhibiting the same slowdowns?

See link Does Apple throttle older iPhones to nudge you into buying a new one?

Is there a point to that link, the OP has an iPad and we don't know if its wi-fi or cell?

Go to settings>general>usage and see how much free space you have. With iPads you don't have to close the apps as they don't run in the background (the apps are suspended and stored in the RAM).

Hey there, so the iPad 2 is notoriously known and will be slow since going onto ios 7 which is unavoidable.

A few things you can try always make sure your periodically closing down your apps running in the background to do this,

double press the home button then you will see the apps running in the background swipe up to the top to close them down, this does not remove or delete any data. Just closes them down from running in the background.

Always make sure your apps are up to date from the app store to do this go into the app store and make sure your updates are seen and update all as needed.

Every ipad has the same spec as each others model range every ipad 2 will be slow running ios 7 there isnt a massive amount of things to do.

Finally if you want to periodically i would soft reboot it. This does not delete or remove anything just restarts the ipad incase it crashes or freezes.

Hold down the power button and button together until you get the apple logo and then let go. when the power off slider comes on just ignore that. Keep holding then let go until the apple logo appears and it will boot as normal.

    Thanks let me know.

Closing apps on the iPad in that way is largely unnecessary. Most apps aren't actually running in the background, there is just a snapshot of them saved in memory in case you want to go back into them, but a foreground app will use the memory that's in use by these saved apps if it needs it anyway.

So your argument is running all your apps at the same wont effect performance or battery usage ? 99% of apps that run on the device if they are running will use push notifications. Which in turn are always running. When you go in between applications the apps dont restart they continue where you left off. On the Ipad 2 its not a good idea. as its already slow enough.

My iPad2 has been running slower in the last couple of months. If I want to go into Google I have to wait a couple of mins (so it seems) before the box comes up allowing me to type what I want. I've "closed" all my open apps up and do so every day but it hasn't made any difference. Not a big problem for me but definitely a very annoying one! :(

I'm thinking of getting my sister to bring me back an iPad Air from NY later in the year and then my 64gb iPad2 can be given to my DIL! G'son dropped her one and smashed glass. Its been repaired but nothing can be updated. Ooops! Little 18 month olds shouldnt drop it! It plays kiddies programmes already uploaded to watch so not all is lost! :)

    Hey Lara,

As i said before its probably time for a new updated Ipad, to be honest prices of Ipad Airs are a huge saving. Shop around, there is likely to be a new Ipad before the end of the end as the new Iphones are coming in late September. Have a shop around and keep an eye out on Ipad Mini Retina 64GB is a good spec too.
