2 valid road tax discs?
A friend of mine has collected her newer car today and it has a tax disc valid until the end of august. The dealer has purchased a new tax disc for a year valid until the end of july next year (dated 1st august on the po stamp). How is it possible to have 2 tax discs valid for the month of august?

How would that be possible?forgotmyname wrote: »The old disc may have been cancelled or refunded but not returned.0 -
Isn't latest line from the DVLA that the tax disc is non-transferable and belongs to the owner, not the car itself? If so, it means that when you buy a new car, you need to buy a new tax disc. The old one is null and void.0

Starts 1st October this year.

It will make buying a used car privately a pain in the neck, as to stay within the law the buyer will have to re-tax the car before driving it away............wonder how often that will not happen?0 -

Easy, the PO doesn't check to see if the vehicle is currenly excised.
What price is on the disc the full 12 months rate?0 -
I think you are all as baffled as me. She decided to buy the car last week but appears to have asked the dealer to put 12 months road tax on it. When she arrived today after picking it up it had a 6 month tax disc on it expiring at the end of august. Then she produced a 12 month disc that expires at the end of next july. (£170 DUTR) It is like getting blood out of a stone trying to find out why with her, but I just think this is very strange.0

You cannot get a refund on a tax disc which is in the month of expiry (in this case August). You can't buy less than 12 months tax, so they have honoured what their part of the bargain was. In theory they could have got a refund for the single month, but perhaps it's too much administration, or maybe the needed to move the vehicle between when it was sold and when it was paid for and collected.Whoops there goes another year, there goes another pint of :beer:0

Band G is £180 , so they may not have had to pay the full year.0 -
