hair gel recommendations for a child

My DS age 7 has just started to get fussy about his hair  to be fair alot of his friends have been bothered about theirs way before him, I am lucky I have avoided it for this long!

He likes gel in it but the problem is he has very fine hair and it doesn't hold, 10 minutes after I have put it in his hair is flat again.

Can anyone recommend a good strong gel that will wash out with no trouble. I have looked and some of them are expensive. I don't mind spending the money just as long as it works.

thanks

Why? Some young boys do like to do their hair just like girls do. Do you think you're a better parent for some reason?

OP l don't know the answer but my sons is the same, far too fine.

    Happy moneysaving all.

It isn't a parenting question, neither is it a question of gender - it's a question of what's appropriate for a child of 7.

Why isn't gel appropriate for a 7 year old! It's no different to any other hair product, leave in conditioner for example!

My son likes the VO5 range, I can't recall the name, but it's a smallish pot a bit like a hair serum! I think it's about £4 a pot, but lasts a while and holds his hair in place. He's 10 and has just started to get into products, more recently Jean Paul gaultier aftershave like his Father uses :)

Me too, a child should not be worrying about such things!

I remember they used to wait until they were in their mid teens, when they'd 'discovered' girls

    Am not seeing the issue?

If he has gel in it.......reduces the risk of him getting nits :)

  • My son is 7 and a few boys in his class have immaculately gelled hair. His hair is fine and just won't stay styled. I don't recall at that age, any boys in my class giving a rats A about their hair. I guess it's a sign of the times!

There are a lot more things to worry about than that! Children develop very differently now, they are bombarded with images, adverts not to mention peer pressure. It's not as if he wants a piercing or tattoo, just a hair product!!

Like I said in my post he is actually one of the later ones in his class to be using gel.

I don't see the harm in it. His school don't allow it but some boys have lines and 'pictures' shaved into their hair now.
