Crackling noise from bt landline

I got terrible crackling noises from my two bt phones. It is almost impossible to make or receive any calls, bt has agreed to divetr all calls to my mobile. I was also informed if it is due to my equipment's I will have to foot the bill, also the broadband went down completely. Today the BB is working on and off nut not the phone. Can I assume the problem is with bt network not my equipment? This happened to me a year ago and Bt had to dig to fix some cables buried underground and it took more than three weeks to resolve the problem. It is annoying that this is the third time I had problem with the phone not working. Thanks

Have you connected the phones directly to the master socket and tested .
BT Engineer will test and if fault is found after the master socket you are charged .Its around £179 per visit .
How are the phones wired how is the broadband wired .

No, because you haven't said what your equipment is.

What have you got, how's it set up? How are using your broadband - wired or wifi? How far from the BT socket is everything located and how is it all connected?

Is everthing on the end of a 10m telephone extension lead?

If you plug a wired phone into the test socket behind the plate in the master socket and the line is still crackling the fault is with BT's line and you will not have to pay anything.

As an ex BT engineer all can ask has it been raining a lot in your area if it has then you might have a dodgy connection on your line as water often gets into the bad joint and causes this problem

I had exactly the same problem and it was always worse when raining. I finally persuaded them to send an Openreach engineer and he quickly located a corroded joint in my external line.

After replacing the wiring from the local junction box to my property, everything was sorted and not only did the crackling disappear but my broadband speed increased from an intermittent 1 Mbps to a rock solid 8.3 Mbps.

Had a similar problem as well, checked the line by plugging two different phones into the master socket. Same crackling on the phones, but it was just about usable. Rang BT, who didn't seem to be able to hear the crackling, but they sent an engineer out and it was a fault on the line that went from the telegraph pole to my house. They replaced it at no cost to me.

Since the forum team are still being numpties and deleting any of my posts which link (or reference in ANY tenuous way) the PDF hosted on my website, here's a link to the SAME file hosted at Dropbox.

You've got more patience than me. If I'd constantly had posts deleted I'd have given up on the forum. I very nearly did over the issue of CEO emails.

I'm wondering if your stalker has an ulterior motive - I recall a link to a page that looked like it was somebody offering a service checking interior phone wiring. Not sure if it is still on the board though. I certainly didn't hit the spam button. Not sure how many reports it takes but somebody determined enough couldprobably set up enough accounts to use the spam button to remove any post they wanted to.

I had a similar problem, only the worst thing was losing my broadband.

Turned out to be a bad connection at the nearby cabinet. The engineer told me it looked like someone (another engineer) had swapped my line onto a faulty connection, in order to get someone else's line working. He could tell it had been messed with recently.

He said it would have been the quickest thing to do, to fix the other customers line and if the engineer was struggling to meet targets, this is probably what happened.
