entitled to return coffee?

Hey everyone

I recently bought 2 jars of coffee which i hated the taste of. I opened one so obviously i could not return that one but the other one was sealed. I went back to the shop to see if i could change the sealed jar for different brand. They said no because i wasn't allowed to return foodstuffs? i bought it on a wednesday and tried to return it on the following friday, Are they right? i dont know if it matters but it was a small pound shop, they dont have the return policy listed anywhere in public view.

You have no right of return unless goods are faulty (subject to the stores own T&C which might give additional rights but that doesn't appear the case here).

A jar of coffee for £1 and it is bogging,........that is a surprise! :D

There's no statutory right to return goods that are not faulty - if it's described as hazelnut coffee and tastes off banana you may have a case, but not liking the taste is subjective.

All over a pound too - my my!

If you shop at a proper supermarket their superior (voluntary) returns policy would enable you to return the coffee. You pay extra for good customer service at a pound shop you pay your money and take your chance. Give the unopened coffee to a local foodbank.

Lol, when I started my debt free journey, I was cutting back on everything.

I decided to stop buying my usual coffee jars by Kenco, DE, Nescafe Gold etc and try the Maxwell House jars from Poundland.

Just one cup was enough for me to know, the bin was the best place for it.

I appreciate that some people, would say all freeze dried coffee tastes like cat pee, but this really was comparable I reckon.

How much did it cost to return to the shop? (please don't tell me more than 0.00)

No, it didnt cost me anything to try and return it. But it lost the pound shop the rest of my business. If i have no legal right to then fine but if they, being in the business of serving customers have a less of a goodwill policy than a large supermarket then thats thier choice. Ill go somewhere that does. Its no wonder smaller shops are losing business to the big branches.

A pound might not be much to some people here, but its still a pound of hard earned money to me, and i choose to spend it only on something ill use.

It doesn't discourage them, the caffeine makes them hyper and you just don't see them as they zip around at incredible speeds :D
