So £1k is probably a maximum?

Probably but no harm saying a bit more if they ask if you have a figure in mind!
You might wish to try approaching a local independent dealer about selling it to them first and negotiating a better deal at the Nissan place. A main dealer will probably just send your trade in to auction as they are more interested in 1-4 year old cars for their forecourt. Better still would be to sell the Corsa yourself but it depends if you can be without your car for a short while and if you feel OK about having people come round to view it/test drive etc. You could probably sell it for £500 more than you will get as a trade in.

Bit of a jump in car size from a Corsa to a Qashqai - do hope you've had / will have a test drive in one before handing over cash. Heart sometimes over rules Head in these kind of choices

Adding a bit of realism to the equation, the trader wants the most profit from his car, will offer you the least he can get away with and then you will strike a bargain. No-one on an internet forum can see either cars qualities or values and if there were hard and fast, "rules" you could buy and sell, unseen, over the phone. If Glass's and CAP can't agree, never mind the Parkers comic, you have to deal with what appears to be value to you, on the ground.
Always go on price to change, don't be suckered into a deal by a flattering, high trade-in price, there is probably padding on the asking price, and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

You are not too far off the mark, if the current car is that desireable, it will sell quickly privately , I saw a 53 plate Corsa at a dealership near me for £1095 obviously there will be a haggle buffer built into that, plus profit line.
Also the dealer taking the trade in has to get shot of the car they are taking on, and depending on the age, it may not end up on their own forecourt, especially as they have to add warranty etc .

Alfrescodave - I have driven Transits before now and took a bit of time getting used to 3 point turning and reversing round corners but I was alright in that. It is a consideration though I was a bricking driving a transit until I had been in it for 10 minutes.

I appreciate there is no way of giving a concrete figure, I was just curious to see if I was in the ball park with £1k and it seems it might be on the high side but not a million miles out so I do appreciate the replies.

I know of three cars traded-in recently (myself, my wife and a friend) and all were valued 80-90% of webuyanycar's initial quote. Not cast iron but might give you an idea.

if the car is tidy it should be worth a grand of anybody's money

the spec of the car the model and the number of doors would be needed to give a better trade in value but i would say you are looking between one thousand and fifteen hundred pounds for your car depending on the trim level

for a 1.0i 12V Life 3d with 60K as a trade in real top money is £1600.00 for a near mint example

for yours I would say they will offer £1200 or a bit less as a starting price, but whatever they offer if it is in that ballpark then look disappointed and say "i was hoping for a bit more"

if they offer a poor price on the trade in then try and chip them a bit on the new car, tell them you are about a thousand pounds out and ask if they have any room for movement on the new car

remember, if you ask you might not get but if you dont ask you wont get
