Haggling at upgrade

Have my minimum term ending in a couple weeks and wanted to know the best deal to get most cost effective way (excluding buying the handset out right , to which i know is the best way) to upgrade to and commit to a new 24 month term.

am looking at the LG G2 which the cheapset tariff i have found (separate carrier) is £26 month for 500mins, unlimited text, and 500mb data (4g). is there a way i get that cheaper from my provider. wouldn't mind giving up more data as i am always connected to Wifi and give up text as i use whatsapp & Viber for those sms services. but will def need 500 min for calling as a minimum.

ideally would like to pay no more that £22 a month. is that achievable without paying a upfront coat for the handset.

Tell your current provider you want to leave as you've found a better deal on the handset you want. Don't tell them what it is, but let them give you a price. And just keep haggling with them until it's less than the other carrier (still without them knowing, otherwise they're likely to just match it)

    Thanks

what if they ask the price i was quoted. should i just avoid the question and just ask them to provide the best price and then decide?
  • I wouldn't say you have seen a deal elsewhere that you want as phone companies generally know who is offering what and what is likely.

The issue here is you don't have much flexibility in what you want - you are set on the handset and tariff. This will effect your ability to get an exceptionally good deal.

What I would do, is phone them and tell them exactly what you want and ask them for their very best deal. If you can't get what you want for sub £26 I would give them your 30 days notice. You can let them have those 30 days to try and tempt you back before going for the cheaper deal elsewhere. Companies rarely give you their best deal untill they know you are serious about leaving.

What I would say is that if the cheapest for the phone/ deal you wan't is £26 I would imagine it would be a struggle to get it for less than this.

Exactly, don't answer it. What I would say is don't lead in with that you've found a better deal either. Let them do their pitch, ask a few questions about what they've offered you and then tell them what you've found (not who with, or the price).

With salesmen is that the longer they invested trying to sell the pitch the more they'll do to seal the deal. It's what I always do when haggling my upgrade.

They may offer you something better than what you've seen already, but keep an open mind yeah.

Also, try and get hold of retentions, rather than upgrades. They can do more for you. And, whatever they offer you that you are considering taking them up on get it in writing from them and tell them that you'll give them a call back in an hour or two after you've had a read over the plan. If they try and tell you that the deal is there and then or not at all, tell them not at all then and you will be in touch when you need your PAC
