    6GB RAM is ample.

Don't worry...if all goes pear shaped, I have the Toshiba recovery disc. You can go directly to Windows 8.1 Update 1.

It's a good idea to make the Recovery Media(using the Toshiba Utility) for your machine and to make a note of your Product Key before you do anything else.

You can do so using this Tool
  • Just a quick thank you message to all the posters. It took most of today but as of 7:00pm my son is now running Windows 8.1 and delighted with his laptop. :)

When you get Windows 8.1 from the store now, it comes with update 1 included. So yes.

  • I have the same toshiba laptop as this one and im running on 8.1 its the l830-17t i thought i got it on black friday last year and report the fault because its not downloading or installing windows updates so i reset the laptop completly and now theres 172 important updates and windows 10 i should be able to download free of charge but im guessing all has to be upto date and im just about to give up :(
Ive also been on toshiba service station and theres 2 updates ive just installed (tempro to win10 compatible version and TOSHIBA VIDEO PLAYER) it finished and i checked again on it for updates and then even restarted to be certain and both updates are still there and when i click on the 2 updates it just says ignore or re install ??? Any help would be much appreciated.

Download Windows 10 and upgrade, no need to install all the 8.1 updates

Can you rewrite this n English?

You don't need to install updates for Windows 10 until you have installed Windows 10. Have you done so?
