Tomatoes Not Turning Red
I planted some Heinz grow your own tomato seeds and have had lots of green tomatoes for well over a month but none are turning red. The plants are outdoors and located in the south of England where the weather has been quite hot. I have watered them and used tomorite a few times. Any suggestions?

Patience I guess
We have had loads more sun than normal this year here and mine are still green on the whole - I have one which is on the turn. It may help to remove a few of the leaves if they shading the green tomatoes. "'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Another vote for Patience
Lots of green ones but have only eaten 6 ripe ones so far.
Worth waiting for.
Have stripped a lot of the lower leaves.0 -
I was thinking this very same thing over the last week or so - i've a couple of small San Marzano that have ripened, but i noticed this evening my first Ailsa Craig has turned (hurray !)
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
My grandad always used to put them on a tray with 1 red tomato (bought if necessary) covered with a tea towel above the oven. 2 days later they were all ripe. Should work faster with a banana, I believe.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

A good tip for late September, but its far too early to do that .0 -

Maybe an old wives tale...but...I'm told if you put a red apple next to the tomato plants...?0

wish mine would stay green for longer. I have a tree that is producing tomatos in waves. I'm going to have about 30-40 of them that are going to all turn red together.0

got over a dozen plants up at the minute - all of them covered in green tomotoes - only had 4 red ones so far! I am really hoping they dont all turn red at the same time otherwise I will be inundated! I can see me freezing a load of passata and tomato soup!0

Why ?
The tomato will taste better if left on the plant until the correct time, which will be in the next few weeks. Taking the tomato off and forcing it , shows impatience and results in a inferior crop.0
