A recovery truck had literally just gone with my car, I was about 2 months behind with payments with moneybarn. I cooperated with the recovery driver and gave keys over etc. he said that as long as any arrears are bought up to date they will bein the car back, is that true? I always thought that recovery was final. If that's true I can make the payment today but if not I'm stuck without a car. I'm 2.5 years into a 4 year agreement and put down a decent deposit, there wa a court order on it but stupidly I missed the last 2 payments. I've made 1 already and can make the other if what they are sayig is true

This site has an entire section devoted with issues around Moneybarn, and what to do in your situation:

That link doesn't open on my phone for some reason? Spoken to moneybarn b y email and they are saying that it's tough they want full payment. The recovery driver was adamant it was just arrears and that he would bring the car back! Where do I go from here? For me no car = no work so I'm terrified

    Try this link: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?422-Moneybarn-Issues

From reading these threads, it seems that it is not Moneybarn themselves who repossess your car, but they contract to another company to do so - as a result, this recovery driver doesn't have the authority to tell you that the arrears will bring the account up to date, and Moneybarn seemingly do ask for the full amount.

What does your contract say from when you took the finance out?

It was a different company yes called ceatta. The driver made the promises and he was effectively representing moneybarn so surely they have some responsibility here? (Moneybarn I mean)

Well, whether he's representing Moneybarn or not is a bit of a grey area. They appoint them to uplift the car only.

He doesn't 'represent' moneybarn. He is contracted by them and gets a fee for repossessing the vehicle. If it were possible to pay the arrears before repossession then he would have offered you that option and, had you accepted it, called them for you to make payment before lifting the car.
But if you were in a position to make the payment, why didn't you do so when he arrived, rather than hand over the keys? Even if you could recover the vehicle, you've now incurred the extra costs of their repossession.
The terms once you default will be as per the contract you agreed, and if you've defaulted and then still missed agreed repayment dates then it's unlikely that they'll take a sympathetic view.

The drivers job was to take your car with minimal fuss, which he did by telling you whatever you wanted to hear, truth or lies.

I would put your efforts into either finding the money to get their car back or buying a banger so you can still get to work next week.

Going on previous posts I think you should seek debt advice now from one of the debt charities and try and get back on track financially, as debts are not going to go away, they will only get worse. You still have time to address the debt issues and be clear of debt before your 31 if you crack on!

    Good luck.

Good advice from Foxy. You weren't concerned about your position in February but now is really the time to pull your head out of the sand and get this sorted out before it gets any worse.

Start off with a SOA on the debt free board and the regulars there will help you get out of this mess.

If you could make the payment, why didn't you instead of allowing them to take the car.

Now they will probably add the tow truck charges to the amount owed.
