county court letter asking me to visit them

I got a hand delivered letter today while I was at work from my local county court. it names an individual bailiff who delivered it.
I am in lots of debt and in truth this could be from any one of a number of debts, I suspect water or gas/electricity.
the letter said not to ignore it and I would risk being sent to prison for contempt of court if I did. it asks me to visit the court between 8 and 10 on Friday morning.
I have few assets certainly nothing more than a few hundred pounds at best, car on finance etc so no option to sell that.
my main worry now is not about the whys and wherefores of the debt or my finances, its the worry about what could happen next. whatever the debt I can agree monthly payments if they willle tme and stick to them.
I have never heard of this happening before, has anyone else? seems off that they are aksing me to go in to see them? I tried calling the 2 numbers I had for the county court and the bailiffs mobile but all went to answerphone.

Have you had previous letters from the court and ignored them ?
They *may* want you to attend court, to appear in front of the Judge and explain why you are ignoring the Court and if you dont the Court Bailiff will force you to go to court.
To help you more though we need more info.0 -
to be honest I have buried my head in the sand debt wise so I am not sure if I have had letters off them or not. I suspect its probably over a water bill but wouldn't swear to it. I just assumed they would deduct from mmy wages which they have done before0

Are yo sure it's from the County Court, rather than the Magistrates Court?
Generally, threats of prison relate to non-payment of crimnal fines or Council Tax, which are dealt with at the Magistrates Court.0 -
definitely says county court. it says ignoring them is what would be what I was in contempt of court for and would risk being committed to prison.0

DCAS letters are for ignoring, court ones are not.
You thought about posting an SOA or talking to a debt charity?:beer:0 -

Debt Collection Agencies.
Not sure. Normally with the county court if you don't turn up you just get a default judgment against you.
If you feel like starting a thread with your SOA, or even just a list of debts, balances and status, you will get dome good advice.
