Morning all
Bit more normal time for me today. Slept until 5.30 which was 3 hrs better than yesterday, got up, sat on the caravan front seats, eyes felt a bit tired, so grabbed a pillow and put my head down, next time it was 8.30 result.:D
dumpling. Sorry to hear of your result, low carb diet is one way of tackling this. Not sure how the fat affects the sugars, but know is is overall healthier to cut it back.
Julie hope you feel better soon
Had a lovely afternoon at Stow on the Wold yesterday, and a Cream tea, but did have it at YHA which was very reasonable, and really nice, and helps their funds.
Molly, LW, BB, Lou and all others not up to par ((hugs))' spoons, positive vibes. Take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
(((((Hugs)))) Dumpling. Sorry to hear your diagnosis. A school friend of mine got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at Christmas and he's lost 2 stone already. He's never been slim but he is now.
My girls in South Africa have moved premises. They haven't moved the Baby house into it yet but that will be done over the next couple of days.
Wearing one of me new dresses today. I feel like a girlie again. Thankyou ShopandScan for buying them for me. I want some girlie sandals too. Open toed flats (even if they are patent leather) don't quite cut it in this heat).Judi- my DH watches awful boys tv (DIY, cars etc), I just sit in the armchair and knit or read!
Anyway, I'm waffling, best get me shoes on we are off shopping (again). We might just get there this time. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Elona........I am really sorry to hear about DH's friend x
Dumpling........... I have type 2 as well but mine is genetic down the female line, my Mum had it and she was 7 stone all of her life, it is just one of those things but it still knocked the wind out of my sails when I was diagnosed! The hospital have just taken me off of one of my drugs because my hba1c has come down, still not low enough to come off the other tabs but it is a good start.
You should have been referred to your diabetic clinic and dietician, retinopathy screening, podiatry screening and a desmond's course, make sure that you find out about all of these.
Luckily my GP practice is very good and sorted it all out as soon as I was diagnosed.
I can eat normally and even on occassion have a bit of chocolate and a small slice of sponge cake or a small piece of cheesecake, but that has to be a rare treat and they told me not to deny myself anything but watch labels for sugar content anything over 2% per 100g is to be avoided.
But I have to carry something like jelly babies, glucose tablets or even love hearts in case of a hypoglycaemic attack and they are not nice I can assure you of that.
I have lost a dress size and the consultant is happy so I must be doing ok.
It doesn't have to rule your life, just eat sensibly.
Avoid anything that says it is low fat because it is usually loaded with carbohydrates and sugars to compensate. If you need any help on what you can eat feel free to p.m me and I will be happy to help.
I have a very good book that was recommended to me by the dietician it is this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1908261064/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is really helpful on portion sizes, calories, fats carbs and sugars.
FIL's 86th birthday today so we are going to see him with his card and pressies when DH gets home from work, got him a new summer flat cap, six bottles of his favourite beer and some chocolate plus I got him an Andy Capp book as a joke present, he will see the funny side, he is a bit of a joker himself:rotfl::rotfl:
Must get another load of washing on the line and another in the machine

Wow everyone, thank you for all the virtual tea and sympathy. I feel a bit better today now and have got a list of questions to ask when I see my GP next. Hubby is trying to be supportive, mainly by eating all the 'naughty' food up :rotfl:. I'm looking forward to losing weight and being healthier too and would love to go down several (ok many) dress sizes. This has been a huge kick up the derriere and in a strange way, a positive thing as I was definitely on self destruct when it came to the food choices I was making. Just THANK YOU all of you lovely people xxxx0

Dumpling sorry to hear of your diagnosis; and
to the surgery for giving you the nasty news on the phone. That's how I got my lupus diagnosis, too - I was in Mr T's at the time!! If I were you, I'd take up Butterfly's offer of help and support - she's a nice lady, and obviously she knows how to deal with it day-to-day. Best of luck hun - you can beat it.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Dumpling I am sorry to hear your news, but Butterfly is spot on with her advice.
I was diagnosed 10 years ago and for the first 7 I was able to control it by diet, but then when I was diagnosed with cancer everything went a bit off, and I had to start the tablets. As Butterfly says your GP should be sorting appointments with the diabetic Nurse, retinal screening, Dietician etc. It isn't the end of the world by any means, and as you say a good chance to lose weight and become fit.
It runs in our family on both my Mum and Dad's side, and I was overweight and I think when I was working I didn't always eat what was healthy for me. Yes I have a treat now and again, life wouldn't be worth living otherwise, but everything in moderation, and I will say to start with it might take you a little longer in the SM because of reading the labels. You would be amazed at how much sugar is in some pots of yoghurt.
Good luck and you can definitely do it and be adventurous with your meals, it makes them so much more interesting.
Much love

Dumpling
Maybe you could think of it as "healthy living" and detox and a whole new you. I managed to convince myself I enjoy low sugar jelly and fruit rather than a cream cake and still have about two stone to lose.
DH is still a bit subdued and went to hospital this morning thinking he just needed a small facial op then found he needed an x ray and a couple of mri scans to be arranged to check everything is normal re muscle tissues etc. Hoping we get scans and results soon and everything is clear. At least he is willing to go along with stuff without objecting which is something.
Chicken and mushroom curry is in the oven and making rice to go with it tonight as only got back an hour ago.
Hugs to all."This site is addictive!"
