This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all,
rubbish nights sleep for me so I'm on here early. My own fault I'm afraid for falling asleep through most of last nights telly. Well the stuff hubby watches isn't really my 'thing' and I was bored.:D
Might get to hit the shops today for food but then again.... who knows, we tried that yesterday and didn't quite get there.
Too early to plan my day though ive got heaps of laundry. Where does it all come from?
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning Judi and everyone who follows
I didn't post yesterday as I did have some bad news from my doctor after all. He rang me to tell me I had developed diabetes type 2 so I needed some time to process it. I still can't really get my head round it and I've been up for hours looking on various websites for more information. The problem is a lot of the info is contradictory when it comes to what I should be eating. All my doctor said was to stop eating high fat, high sugar foods.....but they're the best kind Waaaah!
Seriously, I will be changing my diet and even , gulp, getting some exercise. I have 2 months to show improvement or I will be going on meds for it which I am trying to avoid.
I also managed to slice the top of my finger off yesterday while preparing some veggies for dinner so am now sporting a comedy bandage on my finger. I have to have a shower this morning so I don't know how to keep my finger dry, actually I have some hair dyeing gloves so I will improvise with one of those. Luckily it's not my dominant hand which makes it easier.
I am babysitting my grandson all day today. He told me he is bringing a packed lunch and is going to watch 'Let it Go' (Frozen). He's only 3 and he cracks me up. His mum and sister are off for a ladies day out to Woodlands.
That's all my news for now, hope you all manage to have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Light cloud and overcast, looks like the sun will break through. Will water plants and greenhouse shortly.
DH up and going in to work early just to help out – then he’s supposed to be coming home, and we’ll be getting ready, packing the car and getting off – I’ve told him I won’t be happy if he then rings and says he’s staying at work a bit longer.
Dinner last night was HM lasagne, new pots, salad and garlic bread – was delicious and managed to get 2 extra portions into tubs to cool which I’ve just moved into the freezer. Managed to remember to get the newspaper and get the meat/fish voucher for MrM – had a good stock up – so although spent a bit, I’m really pleased with my purchases – I’ve started using them for my fresh meat and quality seems very good so far. Did my normal weekly food shop at MrA as normal yesterday and then went to MrM because of the vouchers, am very impressed with the selection of their 3 for £10 meat/fish deal – which is a deal they always have, there’s loads of different items to choose from – much more than the other big SM’s that offer 3 for £10.
I was reasonably productive yesterday as after food shopping I managed to get all the ironing done, change beds and wash and line dry the bedding. I did also make some Twinks so we have some HM treats in the tins. I packed for going away too. Made a couple of phone calls, and managed to bag a 0% deal for a balance transfer – so will get cracking at reducing that balance before the deal runs out.
This morning I’m going to the bank, then home to pack the car etc once DH is back – then we’ll be heading off.
Have a great Friday everyone x
Take care in the sun and warm weather, remember the sunscreen x
Keep safe and well x
nmlc xWEIGHTLOSS SINCE JUNE 2009 - 5 ST 2LB0 -
Just wanted to say to dumpling. This can be so hard but my mum was given the same diagnosis two months ago. She cut down saturated fats and sugars and although found it very restrictive she lost 3 dress sizes in 8 weeks. She went back to diabetes nurse on tues and she doesn't have to go on meds:T so this can be done and hopefully you can too. Mum had to check all shopping. She craved yoghurt but only one flavour of weight watchers were within the parameters for fat and sugar she had been given! Read the packets of everything and you can do this

Good Morning chums ,bright and sunny here in Kent.DD has managed to get a fortnights work for DGS Ben at her office.not great pay but good experience and stops him fretting about how he has done in his A levels. So one less boy to sort out for me.leaves me with three to look after, not a problem though as they are pretty good lads. This morning I have to take son-in-law to faversham where he will pick up a firms van(handy as he will see his petrol bill decrease quite a bit)Every little helps as they say. This afternoon I shall take the boys to the local country park for an hour or so .they can run some energy off there
:)
Shopping tomorrow morning, but not a lot to buy as I am starting to run down some of the fresh stuff in the fridge.I must sort out my store cupboards tomorrow as well.
Hope you all have a good day and Birthday good wishes for anyone celebrating.New shiny month tomorrow:):)

Morning all
I'm off to work in a sec, no mad rush as I don't need to be there 'til 8ish.
I have my menu planned for next weeks buffet so I know what I'm doing for that. Also my diary is nearly full for the next 4 weeks what with visiting friends & grandchildren & days at work, I need to fit in some sewing time as well.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -

elona What a shock! Are you and DH OK?
bargainbird Nice to see you, you should pop in more often
dumpling My mum was diagnosed a few years ago - from a spot on her back where her bra strap was rubbing! She went to the doc because it wouldn't heal and was sore, he said it could be a sign of diabetes and did blood tests. She just thought she might need antibiotics. She was extremely careful with her food and worried a lot, but after a few weeks she relaxed a bit and realised most of her diet was fine anyway, she just needed to stop buying kitkats. She still sneaks one now and thenShe still eat yogurts but switched to normal ones - the low fat were full of sugar.
The bins were emptied yesterday, there must've been something rotting at the bottom because it stunk and there was a layer of maggots in it. I drowned them, then scrubbed the bin with washing up liquid, then used bleach AND disinfectant. I'm pretty sure it's clean now
I had a lazy afternoon yesterday, crocheting my blanket. I've been working on it for about three months – other things come up and I keep putting it away. There's plenty of time to get it done, I won't need it until the winter so I'll pick it up as and when I'm in the mood.
Shopping this morning, I have no idea after thatWe'll see what we feel like after lunch.

Good morning all
dumpling doesn't sound like you had a good day yesterday. Type 2 diabetes is manageable as my mom also has it but still not nice to get the news. Hopefully today will be a better one for you.
Another restless night last night. Laddo played it up at bedtime and fussed a lot. He's lying in our bed now - not happy with him though.
M.I.L and my mom are both down today so going to make sure the lounge is tidy and every where looks presentable.
I managed to declutter the rest of my clothes drawers yesterday, which I'm pleased about. Got rid of a fair bit too. Going to make a start on the girls things I think. It's just a terrifying prospect due to his much stuff there us
Have a good day all. Will pop back when I can during the day2016 Grocery Challenge January: £296.20/£300 February: £262.05/£3000 -
Morning all
Dumpling- sorry about news. Type 2 is reversible tho isn't it? I'd visit local gym and find an understanding trainer. I know all the yummy stuff is bad for you but when u lose weight you feel so different, it really is worth it x
Judi- my DH watches awful boys tv (DIY, cars etc), I just sit in the armchair and knit or read!
Off to wedding at 11. Need to bath, do hair and nails still. My dress is silky dove grey so I hope it stays cool as sweat marks will show!
Found out last night that DH uncle has cancer, SIL was saying she would tell all the family at the wedding and I said you can't do that! It's the brides special day for goodness sake. I hope she keeps quiet for a few days.
Have a lovely day all x0
