How can I keep light coming into bedroom?

Its fine during night but around 2.30am it gets lighter to the point by about 5am its waking me up every few minutes, I currently have blinds, with curtains on top and then some quilt covers and it still has a lot of light coming in.
I know you can get black out curtains but they seem very expensive, seem people online mention use something like cardboard taped to window or tin foil but that would not be great since I want as much as light as possible during the day.

You can get curtain black-out lining which clips onto the backs of the existing curtains.
£10-£30 so not that expensive.

You can use black out curtains/blinds, but I find they still let some light in so I wear an eye mask to sleep.0

Hi, my hubby put up ikea black out blinds a few weeks ago and they are fantastic. The fittings are easy enough to put up but best to have 2 people to measure, measure again and cut metal pole and blind. My hubby isn't great at DIY and he could do it. I'm the measurer and cutter. I hate the light in the morning but these blinds are cheap and do a fab job. Have a look at their website, they come in a variety of width fittings, lengths all the same. We fitted ours right into the recess next to the window rather than the wall. Hope this helps.0

I've got the dunelm mill linings - they're great.0

Blackout blinds from Amazon are very effective - just cut them as wide as possible to go right to the edge of the frame. Metal fixings are a lot easier than plastic ones.0

Thanks, in my opinon the majority of light if leaking through the gap at top of curtain poles and also from the gaps at side of blinds, if I could pin the blinds to the window(which I am wary of doing as its a rented property and double glazed also) that would take care of part of the problem and the rest is somehow blocking off the light that comes out the top.0

We used stick and sew velcro to attach blackout material to the window frames. Stick one bit to the window frame and sew the other to the blackout material. They can be taken down and folded during the day and attached quickly in the evening.
No damage to the window frame as adhesive will wash off (can get adhesive remover if it is tricky to remove). You don't need to run it across the whole window - a bit in each corner will do - if your windows are very big you might need a bit in the middle to stop it sagging.
No light will get in as there'll be no gaps
And it's cheaper than blinds

I made shutters out of 6mm mdf. They work well and were cheap as chips.0
