OP: contracts don't just 'end'. They merely reach their minimum term. After that they continue until you give your 30 days notice.

Woops! You should just take the £35 and be done with it. You shouldn't trust sales agents! Unless Emma was porting her number from Vodafone to EE there is no way that Vodafone would know that you wanted to end the contract and go with EE, unless you tell them you're cancelling.
Vodafone don't have to give you anything at all, as when you signed your contract you signed to say you'd read that they'll just roll your contract over on a 30 day basis after the minimum term until you advise them that you're leaving0 -
