Sorry but can anyone give me concrete advise that if I let this parking charge go to debt collectors it won't affect my credit score?? I have read so much on here and other places saying that it won't but have now been informed by experian and money advice service that it will?? Confused! How can this be fair to any member of the public? Where is the justice if parking companies can just simply bully you into giving them your money by being entitled to damage your credit score? It's daylight robbery!!
Any help much appreciated!

Which PPC is it and when did you get your ticket?0

Cobblers, debt collectors have no powers to do anything. The only way your credit rating could be damaged is if a parking company (NOT a toothless debt collector) took you to court, won, and you still didn't pay.
There is a distinct whiff of fish about your post. You'll need to answer waamo's questions at the very least for us not to write you off as a parking company stooge.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Hi Tillyg
We would really need more information regarding the parking charge you've received, when and from which parking company to best advise you.
If you ignore the charge then you will get a series of demands from the parking company, probably followed by a series of letters from debt collectors - who are toothless and cannot affect your credit. With some firms they will eventually give up.
But some parking companies are quite litigious and might later send you what's known as a Letter Before County Court Claim, LBCCC, and/or issue a county court claim against you.
If you ignore that (or defend against it and lose) - then - If you do not pay - a CCJ will be recorded against you.
But the best way to deal with any parking charge is to appeal against it. This forum has an excellent record at helping people get these charges cancelled and you will then pay nothing.
So if this charge is from a private parking company read the NEWBIES sticky thread for advice and a first appeal template letter.
If it's a council issued PENALTY Charge Notice then you're better posting on the pepipoo forum - be prepared with photos of the front and back of the PCN and post them up when you first ask for help (blanking out any info that could identify you first)0 -
Lol, UKPC, couple months ago.
Why are reputable credit companies such as experian saying the debt collectors will inform the credit agencies then if not true? Can't believe this is allowed to happen!0 -
Have been down the appeals route and popla to no success. Also it is leasehold land to which in the deeds residents are entitled to park there.0

Hi Tillyg,
Sounds like you didn't find this forum before you appealed which is a shame as UKPC are easy to beat. They also don't tend to do court and will more than likely eventually give up after you've received a letter chain from their debt collectors for months.
As you've already been down the POPLA route your only options now are to ignore (unless you appealed as registered keeper and you were not the driver - if the driver was a different person you may have an option to name them - read the sticky NEWBIE thread if this could apply in your case)
You should also be complaining to the landowner and/or managing agent who brought in UKPC to get this charge cancelled.
EDIT P.S. Remember you will not get a CCJ and your credit rating will not be affected unless they take you to court and you lose and you then do not pay. Read NEWBIES thread post #4 for dealing with debt collectors.
Keep all letters and watch out for a LBCCC or court papers - very unlikely btw but if you get either of those come back for advice.0 -
Thank you. Yes we are in contact with managing agents, but I can only assume as with all of this it will be a long process for them to look into getting charge cancelled. UKPC have said it will be passed on debt recovery in 24hours. So stuck what risk to take. Risk black marking my credit at experian said they would put a default payment on or what citizens advice said to pay up and try to reclaim the money by taking them to court??0

Did Experian out it in writing that a mere debt-collector could damage you credit rating?0
-
No just over the phone. Both Experian and money advice service (MA) said it would be a missed payment therefore would create a default and could greatly damage my credit score?0
